Blocks feature in Reason 5... anything like it in Sonar X1?

Not a dealbreaker by any means, but just curious. Does Sonar X1 one a feature similar to Blocks in Reason 5? It seems like a really great idea, so I was just wondering.

For those who don't know what I'm talking about, the Blocks feature in Reason 5 is a way to organize and create your music using the different sections of your song, i.e. intro, verse, chorus, bridge etc. So for example, you can create a chorus "block" that includes all the tracks you want in the chorus, then call it out each time you want the chorus in your song.

Never tried it myself in Reason 5, but looks intuitive.

Blocks mode is no big deal. It's really just an extension of Reason/Cubase style comping. Split multiple clips at same point on time line then click appropriate clip at each split to compose a good take.

I think you were wanting a drum synth vaultwit. Well there is one in Reason called Kong.

That's not what Blocks mode is at all. You can mark off a section of your composition and mark it your "verse", "chorus", whatever, and then just brush it over the top to add the entire section as a pattern of sorts to a different part.

In that view, it's more like Live's "Scenes" or even Cubase's "Play Order Track" a little bit.

The Matrix can do a pretty similar job, but there is no group editing like in blocks.

    Yes!

Grouped and instanced clips and track markers.

Matrix view is nothing like editing midi in Reason.

Blocks merely instance the midi that lies in between the markers so when you make changes to one block those changes are reflected in a matching block you may have set-up in your arrangement.

In this regard Sonar is more flexible.  Reason is merely simpler.

    In Sonar you can pretty much do the same thing;
In track view, hit Ctrl-A to select all tracks.
Click the Time Ruler to the time or bar where the chorus begins.
Hold and drag your mouse to cover the select time of the chorus. You see the darken shade.
    Ctrl-C to copy your selection.
Scroll to the time point where the next chorus has to play.
    Ctrl-V to paste.

Of course this is not flexible to use in a live setting if you want to spontaneously repeat a chorus but it helps in using Sonar as a linear song builder.
