Blue Cat Audio Plugins (Free)
I remember previously using Blue Cat Audio plugins with a much earlier version of Sonar and I like the plugins. I recently discovered their website again and decided to used one of their plugins and it worked well for me. On their site, there are several great plugins that might be of used to the Sonar community. Renumber to take advantage of the FREE ones. The Blue Cat pack itself comes with 7 plugins. BLUE CAT FREE PlUGINS Bundle (Click Win X64 VST3 on the right side, or the appropriate option to download).

The free gain plugin goes on every vocal track here, for pre-compressor leveling.

Nice bitflipper, that Free Gain plugin is what led me to re-discover the Blue Cat plugins again.

It's great that you can have the Gain plug on two different tracks, so you can add gain on one track, and reverse the gain on the second track.

Yes S.L.I.P., That is a great feature. Also the group feature is great as well, having several groups can be created using the plugin.

Can someone explain to me what the benefits of using the gain tool in this suite has over channel tools already in Sonar?

Check out this video. The ability to group multiple instances is unique as far as I know.

There are several advantages, but #1 is that you can place the gain control anywhere in your fx chain and automate it. For me, that means inserting it in front of a compressor so that I'm leveling a vocal before it hits the compressor. But you might also want to automate gain in front of, say, a reverb plugin. Second-best advantage, for the Blue Cat plugin in particular, is that you can control multiple instances of the plugin from one automation lane. This is great for stacked vocals, either multi-tracked or harmonies. It supports, IIRC, 4 separate groups. Because the relationship between master/slave pairs or groups can be inverted, it also lets you adjust a level on one track that simultaneously adjust the slave track(s) in the opposite direction. You could, for example, have one gain plugin turn volume up going into an effect, and a second gain plugin after the effect turning the volume back down by exactly the same amount. The volume range is scalable, so you can use it for tiny adjustments or grand movements.

I stand corrected. Just had a peek, and you can indeed have nine groups. Although I've never used more than 2.
