I wish I could play the harmonica. I didn't like the tone on that lead that came in after the harp much. Great playing though.

I kept waiting for vocals. But that guitar is doing some pretty nice singin' anyway. :-) Cool stuff!

I wouldn't normaly think about smoothness and EQ in the mix as a whole at this stage of developement in a song/production but but I try to have my tracks set up so that say a track "take" will sound pretty good upon listening to the playback. On this it sounds like "what is there now" is not in the ball park with what I know that your final mixes will be. IE sound, tone, smoothness etc. The bass has a lot of boom (and understandbly so) because of its upright bass sound and one of the guitars is thin sounding. The effects used on the harp and guitar have that delay/ehco sound that places them in a "erra" sound. So much so that it can work in one of two ways, either sound "cool" or "dated" for lack of better words. Of course that doesn't make (that) sound bad it just has (that sound). I like this and you already have a great (setting) (as far as getting the basic structure) laid out. At this point I would tend to think as the mix engeeneer about mixing this as a final product in a sense with whats just here now in order to get, or create a feel in the mix sound, inhance the performance etc. Of course I hope that it's clear that I try to think of ideas for a person in your case as you seem to want or would like to see others ideas on the subject and not so much mix crits because sometimes the crits subject is a hard one to address because of tastes, styles etc. My comment on the "effects" is one example. Is that a crit? or a musical taste or prefernce? I don't know, so thats why I like to think of it as throwing out ideas instead. Great job as usual on this Frank, I looked forward to hearing its development.

I pretty much like it as is. It's got a live feel. Very cool 12 bar blues. As a keyboard player, I notice that you often have your keys mixed way in the back... The organ on this is no exception. It's basically a texture, not really a part. I suppose it's because you think the keys are the weakest bit? Doesn't really matter. The overall sound of this is great. Pro really to my ears. The harp and guitar playing is just awesome. The acoustic bass is interesting and you've captured it's sound. I wouldn't mess with the bass too much unless you maybe just need to tame the ultra low end a bit. Another great job Frank. Peace, Ian

Hi Frank , nice and laidback blues, excellent playing. Imho the harp and the guitar could be a bit louder, that bass is a bit overpowering, or in other words maybe pull back that bass a bit. good job. Greetings, Rik

I have spent a lot of time listening to music and sounds just like this on Halsted Street in Chicago. This is really some blues, my friend. Jams like this go on for 20 minutes and more and I never can get enough. I loved every second of it!!! If you had a table, I'd jump up on it and do air guiitar. Fantastic performance!!

Back to New Orleans are we? Top-shelf Blues jamming and performances here. This feels fresh and live ... many instruments are blending. If possible, I'd consider to isolate the hats/cymbals a bit (EQ or pan) ... and or hpf other tracks dynamically with automation. But, if this were indeed a 'live' recording I'd give this 10/10 for that (e.g., producer/production viewpoint)

I like the live feel. Smoky bar Chicago sound. It sounds pretty good on my Bose speakers. This would please a large crowd of southside drinkers and dancers. Bona fide blues chops, you can feel them. Cool as always. I wouldn't EQ it into a studio sound, I like the raw feel. Anyone would love to get a live recording to sound as good as this. Daryl

Great Chicago Blues vide on this one Frank. Lead sounds a little to far in the back room. Would love to hear it a bit more up front FWIW. Love the upright bass vibe.

Thank you all so much... I actually had different plans for this tune. I had written some cool lyrics and had planned to do more of a delta blues thing, but my good buddy Dave played such a cool lead guitar track in one pass... that I just went with that... I was going for a live vibe... but now that heard it on line, I've decided to make a few changes... more to come...

Absoflippinlutely terrific! I wouldn't change a doggone thing in this. It has a great live feel. The harp has that great retro sound to it and the lead guitar is excellent but the stand-up bass takes it all the way back in the alley. Love it. This song doesn't need vocals -- it is great to again hear the sound of Blues instrumentals. That little piece of the Bill Doggett's "Honkey Tonk" like guitar riff right at the end is a nice touch. Great stuff Frank. Freddy J

I love the life feel of this song. The bass is bit heavy. The cymbals volume is uneven sometimes. However, great guitar playing and licks!

Nice live sounding track Frank. I'm not a major blues fan, but I can never resist listening to your stuff as you never disappoint. +1 on the smoky bar feel ( do such places still exist these days ?) I see that you're into changing it some. Sounds about right the way it is to me, but I know your ears are pretty good, so I'll look out for the new version and see if you were right (again !)

Raunchy. I love that bass. All the chops are great, but lead guitar sounds thin to me. Wouldn't mind it warmed up a bit and more in the foreground.

I agree Mark about the thin guitar sound... My 51 Nocaster through Dave's 20 watt Blackstar amp... on this latest mix I bumped up the midrange (2K) and that fattened the tone nicely... I also shortened the arrangement by one chorus and added a few harp licks... Tony, thanks for the listen... When you get time check out the new mix... Mark (mstodge), nice to hear from you... Thanks...
