Bluetooth... iLoud?

I want something to use to stream music from my phone on the back porch. What I'd really like is a Bluetooth receiver with speaker outs for either passive or powered monitors... but I am thinking about just getting an IK iLoud. They are on sale and the specs look pretty good AND when we go on holiday to the beach or whatnot it would certainly be portable. I have this Onkyo A/V receiver that I have not got hoked up yet because it intimidates me and will likely blow the 5.1 speakers I now have.. but I guess that might be an option too. I'm thinking of going down to Best Buy and getting a new TV for the big room, moving this one to the bedroom, getting an ac 1720? (I think that is right) router and getting them to come and install everything. We also have a new laser printer that I cannot seem to get my laptop to recognize. It works fine on the desktop and on my wife's lappy but not mine. I have a little USB wireless dongle thingy that plugs into the front of the Onkyo that I think is for streaming music and video but I'm just over my head.

So do you think that the iLoud is a good option to fill the gap until I can get someone to help me or is there a better option for Bluetooth. My only concern is I have a large area and I don't know if the iLoud has enough stereo spread. Any thoughts or ideas?

Thanks!

Thanks for the help... I found this too. It looks interesting and is in the same price range. I am still leaning toward the iLoud because I like other IK iCrap I have. Anyway, I think getting the Onyko A/V receiver set up will solve everything and the iLoud will be a good portable solution.
So, have you seen one of these. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_580CS355R/Onkyo-CS-355-Colibrino-Red.html

BTW, I am aware of the Dr. Dre Beats Pill and want nothing to do with it. I know I could get a couple of little pop-up speakers that sound OK but have no sound pressure and sometimes I like to pump out the jams on the porch. The porch is about 600 sq ft, screened... nice party porch with woods in back so I can get a little loud out there. I want to do it right. If I were younger I'd get some Klipshhorns or Altec PA speakers and a power amp and wire it all to an inside Bluetooth receiver/CD player/turntable.
When I met my wife in 1976 I lived on a dirt road out in the country. The only house on the road, an old farm house with a wrap around porch and a breezeway. I showered at the pump house. Had a couple of easy chairs and a sofa on the back porch. Had a mattress in one room. Had my stereo and records on another room. Had speakers on the back porch.. and a refrigerator out there... man, those were the days. There were ever some nice fungi that grew in the pasture surrounding the house. It was OK until winter. Soon after came marriage and a steady job.. now... I want some good sound on this porch but with a few more creature comforts. Those memories are the best though. We were into Bob Welch era Fleetwood Mac, Dave Mason Certified Live, Firefall... good times. BTW, if you're a Fleetwood Mac fan Christine is touring with them in the USA and Canada in the next year. It is the Rumors lineup but I hope they do some stuff from Bare Trees and Mystery To Me and of course Then Play On... I'd love to see them with Christine.

So... do you have outdoor sound? What do you have? I have some NIB outdoor passive speakers I bought a few years ago that I think I am going to put on the front porch. I don't want whatever I put on the back porch to rot from the humidity and I don't want to have to haul the speakers in and out... but I want good old school sound, Loud if I want it. Really, I'm thinking that the iLoud will fill the bill for now... and no one seems to care to talk me out of it.

You should also look at the new Amplifi series from Line 6. Kill several birds with one stone.

Re: Bluetooth... iLoud? 2014/04/04 11:46:05 (permalink)
After some reading I am not sure if I can use the AMPLIFI to stream Spotify, that would be a deal breaker. They seem to be big on iTunes and using the AMPLIFI to play songs or playlists that are physically on your device. I keep NO sngs on my iPhone, they take up room and they are all available on Spotify. I use Spotify premium and Wolfgang's Vault. Between them I have everything I want to listen to without taking up any room on my phone. (I live in a town where everyone you see is either on their way to or from a yard sale.. so all that was available when I bought my phone was a 16G model) I wont make that mistake again... I guess I could get an iPod but it is getting too deep. I just want a simple and good solution to use Bluetooth to stream music from Spotify and the Vault. I posted a question in a thread on the AMPLIFI forum on LINE6. They really are not clear about what you can and cannot do with the AMPLIFI. I think.. that you can stream Spotify but you wont be able to use the APP and pull up guitar tones for a song unless it is in iTunes... I think. I'll let you know if I find out. I really don't care about getting tones from the songs... I have other amps and can get a tone I like and I always sound like me anyway.

Let you know...

Re: Bluetooth... iLoud? 2014/04/04 12:41:03 (permalink)
Got an answer... quote: "It should stream any audio from your Bluetooth device.

However, once you start the AMPLIFi Remote app, you can only stream from within the app."

So, I'll have a closer look! Thanks again Ol Pal!!

Now I have to consider the word "should" and the price difference. The iLoud is 10% off through the 15th and of course I would get the AMPLIFI 150 which would be almost twice the price of the iLOUD... uhhh.

I found these too... they might be just what I need. http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/MediaOneBT5 40w RMS Bluetooth monitors. Then I could add the iLOUD (or AMPLIFI) but I already have an iRIG Pro and IOS Amplitude, MultiDaw, Audiobus, and it is good for relaxing, playing, and catching ideas... I could stream music (Spotify) through the Samson monitors and guitar/amplitude through the iLOUD... plus have it to grab and go. Then I'll be at 468.10, if I were to buy both the monitors and the iLOUD. Still cheaper than the AMPLIFI and there seem to be a lot of people having problems with the Bluetooth staying connected on the AMPLIFI, though I think they just released an update... Line6 also added a USB that is not used but is there for possible future use... I like that. More manufacturers should think that way. The monitors have a headphone out which I suppose I could use for a small subwoofer (I have a small one from an old computer monitor setup). Neither the AMPLIFI or the iLOUD has an out jack. I think that is a no-brainer for IK, to add a jack so one can hook up a subwoofer if one so desires. I will tell Obi to get on it! BTW, where is Obi?? Have we run him off? LOL...

I appreciate your reply. I was about ready to fade away. I know I post mostly meaningless stuff and use WAY more words than necessary and I ramble all over the place... but I'll stay around. I think I am overly sensitive, I alsays feel like the square peg or the third wheel. So thanks!

FWIW - we do have a Bluetooth able device on the first floor but I always end up using a cable to hook my iPhone directly. Sound quality seems to be heavily compromised otherwise - almost sounds like a frying pan of something...

I've noticed the same thing in the car, so I guess it's not a problem with the actual device.

Hmm, I have no problem with Bluetooth in my truck. I'm using a newer Pioneer receiver and have had absolutely no problems with the BT connection there. I do have dropouts sometimes using WIFI but I think I just need a better router. I was having a problem with too many devices. Charlie showed me how to set a static IP for each device and none of them lose the WIFI anymore but on the porch I sometimes have problems. Thanks Rain.

I have a JBL Flip.  Cheap and Cheerful a really good sounding.  Surprising bottom end for a little speaker.

I Stream music via bluetooth from laptop, Ipad and Android never an issue.  It is our outdoor speaker on the deck, pretty good range too.

The only issue at my house is that it is paired with every bluetooth device in the house now, so it does get a little confused at times.

P.S. - I was looking at amplifi but it currently has no Tie in with any other line 6 products like Amp farm or variax, so I will wait to see if that ever happens.
