Boss Me 25 No sound and Latency

Hi guys,
 
I'm new to the forum and cakewalk. I bought a Boss ME 25 guitar pedal a while back and it came with the Sonar LE. I've installed the boss drivers and sonar without any troubles on my laptop. (Toshiba windows vista 32-bit) My problem is when i plug the Me 25 into the computer (via USB) I hear no sound at all, I've set the boss as the input and my computer speakers as the output. I can record and playback my recordings, but the only way for me to hear my guitar through the laptop is to open sonar and turn on the Imput echo which causes a big latency delay.
 
Sorry if this has been covered before, but it's grinding my gears and i've run out of ideas.

    Welcome to the forum. Did you load the drivers from a disk or download the latest drivers for your operating system from their web site?

    You should plug your computer speakers into the BOSS and use it for recording and playback. When you use one device for recording and the computer sound card for playback, you are using 2 devices (sorry for stating the obvious ) and they cannot be synched.
    Not to mention that while doing that you are forced to use the MME or WDM audio drivers, which are not as good as the ASIO driver that the BOSS has.
    So try that and let us know what happens.

    Thanks Greg that is really helpful advice. Nice and simple for me to understand too! I did get the driver from the disc, but it is the same version from the website. So I'll change it to ASIO which will mean the boss will be both the IN and OUT? Will I still be able to record Midi ok with that driver or will I need to change it back?

    How are you recording MIDI now?
    You won't be able to use the Microsoft GS Wavetable MIDI synthesizer on the computer's sound card when using ASIO, but most of us would say that's no big loss.
    There are many software synthesizers that sound much better than that synth, many are free.
    What soft synths came with your version of SONAR LE?

    Yes I am Using Microsoft GS Wavetable at the moment, my version includes PSYN II and Drop Zone. Will they work with ASIO Driver? Would you know of a good place to obtain some free synths?

    Drop Zone will; don't have PSYN II, but it most likely will if it came with LE.
    Cakewalk used to have a few free (older) synths, but it looks like Square 1 is the only one offered now.
    Search 'free vst soft synths' on the web and take a chance. Most will work and some will be worth the effort. Some will not and there's always a chance of catching something bad.
    I see you have Vista. See if Proteus VX is still available for free. A good synth with over 1,200 patches.
    And DSK. I've downloaded some of their stuff; some worked.
    But the best synths will be the ones you pay for and they come with support and upgrades and patches (usually).
