'Bounce to clip' not working--solved!

Title pretty much says it....I'm trying to bounce separate takes on a midi clip...the way I've always done it.  But now it doesn't seem to want to bounce.  I can even highlight the whole track and it won't bounce.

(it doesn't seem to work if you have a volume envelope on it (I'm using instruments tracks))  Thanks, guys!

Is something Groove Looped by any chance?

    Is the position Locked?

Those two circumstances can prevent a bounce to occur.

Hopefully it's something simple like that.

Mike, I don't even know how to check.  I've never heard of those two things.  :(

I'm guessing you would know if you locked a clip... you'd see little lock icon in the top left corner of the clip. You have to do it on purpose.

Same thing with the Groove Loop... it's just a right click option that you can use to make a clip loop... so I'd imagine you would have to do it on purpose.

I sometimes try to bounce and forget that I had one or the other set up and I get temporarily confused.

Are any of the cips you are trying to bounce a "loop"?

Are you trying to bounce tracks together or just clips on one track? The answer may help someone suggest something.

I'm trying to think what else might stop you... but I'm at a loss for a good suggestion.

    best regards,
    mike

    Thanks again Mike.

No, I don't know how to lock a clip or why you'd want to.  And I don't even know what a clip loop is actually.

I'm just trying to bounce clips in one track.  I've done a piano track and then have gone back and changed measures, etc.  (sorta like punch in and out, but I didn't necessarily punch in...just played it.)

Now when I want to move several measures, it's almost impossible, cause they won't join together.

So yeah, it's weird...I've done this for years and it's never given me this trouble.  Can't think what button I may have hit (or whatever it is!)

I wonder if you might try this.

I seems like you do not have you layers open, in other word it seems like you have all the clips over lapped in one track.

Click the little layers button over in the track info area and reveal all the layers.

Then place your cursor in the margin area between the track info and the track lane. Right click and choose "Rebuild Layers". Now, you should be able to see all the clips that were overlaying each other.

Now try to select them all... and see if you can bounce them.

You may discover there is some weird clip in there that you didn't know about and it may be causing an issue.

If it doesn't bounce you can start considering each clip and looking fr anything unusual.

    best regards,
    mike

OK, I tried that and it doesn't seem to make any difference either.  I've never really opened layers either....I just have the clips overlapped in one track.

(how embarrassing to have to reveal all my secrets!)

Well, it must be some weird that will hopefully reveal itself sometime.  Thanks for your help!

    You're welcome.

There's probably something really simple stuck in one of the clips... maybe some conflicting CC data.

As a crazy work around you might try opening PRV and selecting all the notes and pasting them into a new track. I think they paste in as one clip.

    Good luck.

    all the best,
    mike

It is assigned to a synth, isn't it? And have you selected the synth also?

I'm using instrument tracks these days, so they're connected anyway.   And I didn't ever have to do that before anyway.

On the not being able to move them, it's not because you have the alignment button engaged is it? That's limit them to only increments of the alignment interval you selected, 16th note, quarter note, etc...

One of the big problems with products like this, which have lots of modes and lots of hot keys that you never know about, is that it's so easy to engage something and not know it or know how to undo it. I've had a few of these and it's really frustrating.

Are you talking about the Snap to Grid?  If so, I usually have that set to 128th triplet, (Unless I'm dealing with drums maybe.)  Everything will actually move....it just won't move together.

Must be something strange I hit sometime.  Thanks so much for your help!

Just had an idea and I tried it on another project.  It works just fine there.  So there's something fishy going on in this project.  Oh, well...I'll live.  I can't fiddle with it forever.

Just had a thought and tried it out....it doesn't work if there's a volume envelope on the track (while using an instrument track).  At least I know why now!  Thanks, guys!  :)

    Gold Star!

Good job with diagnosing the problem.

Thanks for letting the rest of us know.

No, 'twern't.  :)  I had to be away from my DAW and just randomly thinking about it and thought I'd try it in another project.  Worked fine.  Added a volume envelope and didn't work at all.  That was the only variable, so I thought I'd give it a try.

I've only been using instrument tracks a few months and maybe I just hadn't used volume envelopes on the piano track that often.  At any rate, I'd never noticed it before.
