You are getting very accomplished and polished at this Tull stuff should Mr Anderson be getting concerned or will we see a Tour by the collective Jennifer's? Nice stuff Ed good job

cool cover! not quite as tight as the 'living in the past' cover, but that's kinda the nature of that song anyway, with the steady snare beat keeping everything in line.. i'd kinda like to hear a less fuzzy, more naturally clean and overdriven guitar tone.... but that's a subjective nit pick martin just played a paul straight into a Hiwatt, eh? it's a hard tone to cop. i like these cover projects! good work

Actually, it was Townshend that used Hiwatts (though Martin may have as well), but I remember him for playing Cornford's (he almost got me to buy one). Another success for Dupp & the Tillies!

seems there were a few variations..... http://www.martinbarre.com/index.cfm/about-gearXmas 1968 - I joined Jethro Tull and had recently bought a very tatty Gibson Les Paul special circa late 1950’s. Previously my friend Dan had lent me his immaculate white one but sensibly wouldn’t sell it to me. I had an early Laney 50 watt head, which I linked to a box 2 x 12” cabinet. 1969 - In January we started our first gigs playing with Jimi Hendrix; I still had my orange “Special” but had borrowed a monster 200 watt HiWatt, again not for sale. I ran it through a 4 x 12” Hi Watt Cab. We recorded Stand Up, no F/X except a Jim Dunlop wah wah in “We Used to Know”. 1970 - Same amps but I bought a Les Paul custom; it was a fake and didn’t stay in the collection very long! But I used it on Benefit. I started using a Hornby Skewes Treble Booster, which gave the HiWatts a bit of a kick. Unfortunately they picked up radio perfectly. Any gig within a mile of a radio station was a disaster! I also started using an old Watkins Copycat echo – more noise! 1971 saw the Aqualung Album. I had met Leslie West and the result of much admiration from myself resulted in me buying a 1958 les Paul Junior – the Aqualung guitar. X Eyed Mary was played with an unnamed amp about 12” x 6”! My God through a Fender Super, and the rest through HiWatt plus the trusty? Hornby Skewes, Thick as a Brick and Passion Play – were both classic sounds. 1959 Les Pauls and HIWatt! No F/X Minstrel in the Gallery was played on a vintage Les Paul Standard and for Too Old to Rock and Roll I finally made the transition to Marshall 50 watt Heads and, of course 2 x 12” cabs. I also played a Fender Broadcaster on Taxi Grab and a Hamer Explorer Serial number 0002 bought, of course, from my great friend Paul Hamer. Occasionally a MXR phase 90 or Flanger crept in!

This one of my all time favorite Tull tunes. Nice job overall. However, I am compelled to follow up on what Bat mentioned. What's up with the guitar? James, I am a big fan of your style and tone, which has always reminded me of Martin. Here, it seems dynamically flat, with an almost telephone EQ. You executed the part nicely, but the life is getting sucked out of it. If it didn't sit so forward in the mix, it might not be so obvious, but it does. I've listened to this several times, and I'm sorry to be so blunt, but the mix/tone is just not doing your guitar justice. Fix that, and you guys have a killer rendition here.

Maybe I'm not as finicky about guitar tone, that bass is awesome though eh? , but I rather like the tone. Maybe it's affected on SC by the conversion even though I did upload a 24bit/44.1K WAV.

Ahhh, the bass does sound good (from a bass player...) I would push James a bit harder though. Or like Robert said, "just do it better?" (the guitar in the mix) The Gorilla in the room... Where does he sit? Wherever he wants...

You need to get an Alembic like mine, they rock. But honestly? I really enjoy the Warwick fretless more? You should check one out... Mine is a Warwick thumb bass, you can search them on ebay, there's a big price range difference? I wouldn't part w/mine... I think I got it for 2+ grand maybe 8 or 10 years ago?

Yes, the bass is awesome. The file playback quality seems pretty good. Bass is nice and chunky, drums have good presence, both flute parts sound fine. Guitar just kind of loses it. It could be translation on this end, but I have too much respect for you guys to not bring it to your attention.

I had to check this one out, since in a way, my musical career was in part determined by this song. This is a well-done version, and I think you guys did a really good job. My story with this song goes like this: I actually started off in music as a flutist. By 14, I was studying under Julius Baker and taking master classes at Julliard. And of course, what does a 14-year old flute player want to play? Yep - you guessed it. So, there I was, warming up with Bourrée in the practice room, and Prof. Baker walked in. He absolutely lost his cookies in that very uptight kind of classical musician way, and shouted that when I was ready to play some real music, he'd be outside waiting for me to come to my senses. I was already playing bass on the side and losing interest in going down the classical road, and that was pretty much the last straw. I switched my main instrument to bass, and never looked back. So there you have it....despite Prof. Baker's dire warnings, Bourrée is at least partly responsible for me having a long, creative, and fun career cheers!

Coolest story ever. I switched from rhythm guitar to bass in 1968 when my friends playing a high school dance came up short and asked me to play bass on Sunshine of Your Love (on a Hofner no less). I was hooked even though I had never held a bass much less had never played that song before on guitar. Footnote: I played it wrong in some spots but still had fun. By senior year (1971) the band I was in already had Bouree, For A Thousand Mothers, New Day Yesterday and Nothing Is Easy in our set list. Hence my desire to get some of these fine players in this cover the whole album project. In case no on noticed, my son did the drum programming on this one.

Heh - thanks, Bapu. I got to work an Ian Anderson show a few years ago and had a chance to tell him that story. He wasn't in a good mood because of some production issues, so I'm not sure he saw the humor in it - he seemed more cranky about this world-class flutist not taking him seriously I'll always have a soft spot for this song, so I appreciate the nice performance (including your son's programming).

Also one of my favorite Tull songs, evah. Nice job all around and the mix is working nicely. I do agree about the guitar tone being a little thin and/or bitey, but that's completely subjective. Now if only there was some solid bass playing on this number...
