Boz Digital Labs free Panipulator

I see Plugin Boutique is now carrying Boz Digital Labs and they carry the free Panipulator 2. I wonder if this would be better for analyzing a mix in mono than just using the interleave button in Sonar?

Here's the info:

Panipulator 2 is an update to the extremely simple and useful tool created at the request of Brandon Drury at Recording Review. It is an essential tool for checking how your mixes will translate to different systems. Best of all, it’s available for free.

Even though you spent considerable time and effort getting your mix to sound amazing on your monitors, there is still one very important question: What will it sound like playing at a theme park? or at the dentists office? or on your old radio? What if they wired one of the speakers backwards?

As much as we’d like to think that everyone is listening our music in stereo, the truth is that many many people are listening in less than ideal environments. Panipulator lets you hear what your mix will sound like in those environments so you can be sure that your mixes will translate across all systems.

What will your mix sound like summed to mono? Flip a switch to find out. What if someone wires their system so that they can only hear the left channel? Flip a switch to hear what that sounds like. What if they reverse the wiring on one of their speakers? Flip a switch to find out to see how that will affect your song. These are all common scenarios, and the last thing you want to do is find out is that your mom’s voice, that you thought was buried in the mix, pops out when played over the loudspeakers at Nordstrom.

Panipulator will barely make a dent in your CPU usage, so there is no reason that this plugin should not be a default on every single song you mix.

System Requirements
  • Windows (32/64): VST2, VST3, RTAS, AAX Native
  • Mac (32/64): AU, VST2, VST3, RTAS, AAX Native

Speaking of Panipulator...  Roby, I see you're on X3 so the following may not apply (but may still be of interest) to you.

Panipulator is included in Sonar Platinum and Professional as a ProChannel module.  I just noticed that Panipulator in the PC is version 1.0.1 but the free vst (above), which I also have, is version 2.0.1.

Will Cakewalk/boz be updating the PC module ?

Thanks much for the info!

Actually I have X1-X3 as a loyalty buy, but I still use 8.5 with my old pc. Once I get done with this album and have some spare time, I'm going to install X3 and I'm sure I'll be fine with small solo projects, I'm looking forward to it. My X2 crashed often even while taking the tutorials so I abandoned that idea and stuck with 8.5.

Thanks again! Hope you are starting to warm up in Montreal, we had a brown creeper climbing up my black cherry tree a week ago, a month or more early! Whoo hoo, can't wait to get in the garden! My wife wants me to move my studio out to our spacious living room (no more room nodes hanging over my head!) for the summer months which is right next to a pond, if I do I'll have the sound of tree froggies and peepers all over my songs, not to mention feral cat screams and screech owls :)

Sounds like you don't have much to complain about .  I made an ambience recording in a small swamp two summers ago and while most of it was great, there are a couple of moments when a mosquito almost landed on the recorder.  Unbelievably loud.

It's currently 26degF so my garden will have to wait a while.  Next week looks better.

I just checked my account on Boz Digital's website.
The v2.0.1 is the version that I dl'd on 2/4/15, the same that has the PC channel version.
There haven't been any updates to it since then.

Pesky muskeeters, they really can spoil the show :)

And you're right, life is good with nothing I should complain about!

Bob, thanks for the version info!

Bob, are you saying that your Panipulator PC module is version 2.0.1 ?
If so, how did you update it from version 1.0.1 ?

I am saying that the dl on Boz Digital's website is the same as it was when I dl'd it on 2/4/15.

I wonder if Cakewalk will be supplying us with an updated PC (ProChannel) version.

An updated ChannelTools plugin would do the trick.
