Brain freeze. TTS1 track plays drums ok but Piano roll view sounds like piano?

I brought in a midi track (From my DR880 drum machine) with bass and drums and ran it thru TTS1
That works fine. The midi bits are all there on the MIDI track and it plays drums and bass fine.
But when I switch to piano roll to do mods, the keys and any input sound like a piano.

Set the channel for the drums to 10.

Often, if you already have a PRV open and then try to open another track's PRV, the previous track PRV will open.
Just close the open PRV then select the new one.

Thanks guys. I only had the one PRV
Further to this I clicked on a few of the midi notes.
When I clicked on a bass note it played bass and then all the piano keys to the left played bass
When I clicked on a drum note it played drum and then all the piano keys to the left played drums.
Still a bit confused but it's workable.

John, Where exactly does one "Set the channel for the drums to 10"

Sounds like you've got a midi type 0 file imported - ie. multichannel events on a single track. Not convenient. Try an export from the drum machine to a midi type 1 file and it'll import to sonar with drum and bass on separate tracks. If drum machine not capable of type 1 export, a little extra work will be needed.

Not at DAW now. Track channel setting is in track control pane at left (when exposed by appropriate view filter), but that's not where the problem is. FWIW, note events are channel specific - ie. channel is an *attribute* of the event. Generally, a sequencer's track channel setting will override the event channel. Probably, yours is set to none, or maybe omni, which is why the track played back as expected. You can use the event view to see how the data are parsed. BTW, after importing an externally generated midi file, it's good practice to check for undesirable control events at top of track(s).

    Hope this doesn't amplify confusion.

To set MIDI parameters use the track inspector. It has the channel widget along with many other controls.

Use the Cal split to channel to place drums and bass on their own track if you open or import a type 0 MIDI file.

I couldn't see a place to do a type 1 export. It does have a channel export and does end up on the two channels in the TTS1.
The CAL split did separate them..Great! I did have to move the track to the TTS track and make a copy of that to move the other one to, but it worked.
    Thanks
