Brainwork bx_control
Has anyone else used this? I picked it up on sale recently as I am trying to get that whole mid/side thing down? And I just used in in the mastering chain for a new one I just completed with my son singing (up on the songs forum) It's my first foray in to mid/side. I've always been stereo to this point. But it's fun to try something new and see if I can improve my mixes.

I like it a lot! You can probably do everything that bx_control does with tools that came with Sonar, or freebies, but having everything in one place is just convenient!

Good job on the 670 video, Zo! You've inspired me to dust off my IKM 670 and apply it to some pads.

in bx_control, there appears to be the ability to dial in in (on a hz perspective) and say, anything below this is "mono only?" I think they call it mono maker. Then there are other tools to spread things? Again, I'm not proficient with it yet, but on my 1st M/S mix, it seemed to do a pretty good job? I used it as well as Ozone (with some M/S processing) as well as some Fabfilter plugs w/M/S processing, as well as recording and bouncing to stems w/Sonar Channel tools. It was a combination effort. But I am interested in bx_control. In the songs forum; http://forum.cakewalk.com/My-son-sings-again-Remix1-7114-m3060483.aspx I may remix it again, but people seems pretty happy with it. I'm still trying (hard) to learn more about mixing.

I don't have any other 670s, and I've never used a real one, but IK claims a spot-on emulation based on an actual vintage unit. I've had the IK 670 since they put it on sale some years ago. All I knew at the time was that the Fairchild had been the default compressor at EMI during the Beatles era, and that they'd used it on everything. At the time I'd been looking for a vocal leveler, but as it turned out I already had other compressors that did that job better, so the 670 has been languishing ever since. For M/S compression and widening, I normally use Pro-C. Although it's not capable of the short attack times the 670 can do, I have 1176 emulations for that and it's rare to need a 200us attack and M/S at the same time. But your demonstration has inspired me to revisit the 670 and give it another chance.

I use IK's 33609 model quite a bit, got it when I bought the Neve 81 with the BOGO sale. Around $90.00 for both. (The Neve 81 is excellent btw)
