Brandon Did a great job for the webinar
Everything was live with 16 channels of audio/midi coming into Sonar X2. The band was really cool. Check them out. https://www.facebook.com/souliance Good use of the Roland capture interfaces. The camera people were spot on also.
Win 10 Pro x64, 32Gb DDR3 ram, Sonar Platinum, Cubase 9.5, Mackie MCU Pro, Cakewalk VS 100, Roland Octa-Capture, A 800 Pro, Carver M-1.5t amp & C4000 pre amp, various mics, drums and brass instruments. And away we go!

Kudos from me too... Everyone did a great job. Good band and writing as well as good recording/mix work.
...and Brandon's discussions and explanations were right on the money...

+1. The band was very tight and well prepared and the balance was pretty good to start with so only minor tweaking of the drums, vocals etc. was needed. Brandon has an excellent way of describing things and the whole webinar flowed smoothly from start to finish. It was really great to see the Studio Capture used in a non-studio environment and cope with all the inputs, and X2 performed faultlessly too. Well worth a watch.

This is the webinar I have been waiting for. A real world situation with live musicians. I would be interested to know how well two of the interfaces work together. My work recording live usually will max out a 24 or 32 channel board. If I can get two of these working, I might just be saying goodbye to my MOTU 24io. Is there anyone using two or more of these interfaces? If so, how well and are you pleased with the results?

I hope Brandon gives us a rundown on the computer he was using for this demonstration. I know he said i5 but how much ram and what OS would be nice to know.

Hi Sidroe... tho he only used one, Brandon mentions that you can easily run two of them on a single USB connection... so I'm guessing as all the needed dsp is housed in the interface, that they work fine together... I liked the basic look of and description of abilities of the Studio Capture... It definitely is robust enuf for comfortable session recording/mixing/monitoring in the same fashion as my Presonus Audiobox 1818VSL.... I'd consider a pair if I was in the market right now for sure.... tho I would hope they have rack ears or such for it as we don't all work in tabletop setups... Keni

Since he wasn't using any virtual synths, Only a basic handful of fx plugins, I'm guessing that the memory needed was minimal (I wasly record 32 inputs simultaneously on my old win2k/Dual-Soundscape/SSL Mixtreme cards) tho they are connected via a PCI card there not USB)... I do 16 inputs with the Presonus (8 with preamps) and another 8 (without preamps) via an older Soundscape SS8IO-1 using the Presonus' ADAT i/o... Keni [edit] Had to use Windows 8 as he was using a 27" touchscreen... [end edit]

Hey,Keni. I went over to the Roland website and found the page about chaining two Studio Captures together. They have to be hooked to two separate usb ports or a good high quality hub. You daisy chain the digital coax jacks from the main to the slave and your good to go. They also come with the rack ears. I just might be saying goodbye to my MOTU 24io. It has been a real workhorse and never had one crash ever with it but these Studio Captures are looking awful good. They just opened a GC here in Macon. Some good friends of mine work there. Might be time to collect on those I.O.U.s I have been sitting on for a long time! LOL!

Keni, The Octa Capture & Studio Capture come with rack ears in the package. I am looking at the Octa Capture for purchase, although both will work with my VS 100 (and also the VS 700) by linking the digital ports together and having each unit connected to your computer via USB.

Does anyone ever mention that the ADAT bus is running at 20 bits when the analog I/O is set to 24bits? Does anyone ever ask what happens when you run at 96kHz? best regards, mike

a) Rack ears included.
b) No ADAT bus on the Studio-Capture. Expansion is via Another USB and SPDIF is used for sync. When using two interfaces they share the same driver.

My sincere thanks to those that made the webinar and for the incredibly kind feedback. Made me really happy to read. Yesterday was totally gratifying and Souliance made my job easy by coming with instruments locked and loaded. That reminds me...I forgot to mention production tips number 1 and 2: 1) Play good 2) Sound good :-) The webinar will definitely be available for viewing relatively soon. We caught hi-def audio and video on six cameras and want everyone to get a chance to see it. For anyone interested I was using: PC Audio Labs i5 with 8GB of RAM running standard 7200 RPM drives and Windows 8 SONAR X2a ProducerAcer 27" touchscreen Roland STUDIO-CAPTURE The band used: Roland TD30KVRoland VR-09BOSS GT-10BBOSS GT-100 The A/V crew used too much to list but mixed everything on a Roland M-200i Anyway, thanks so much again for taking the time to watch. I had a blast and can't wait to do another. Happy to answer any questions if I missed anything.

Hi Sidroe... Thanks for the update. I'm guessing it's worth two USB prts to make sure nothing "sweats". ;-) Using hubs always slows down the USB line.. These ays there are many good sounding interfaces so for me it's become a matter of the driver's UI for monitoring and such. The UI for the Roland seemed pretty comprehensive... I'm real curious how good the auto sense is... Did you notice which sample rates it supports? Keni

All Right! I made the plunge and bought two Studio Captures! They are back ordered so it will be about 1 week before I receive them. I will start a new thread about the adventure of getting these things to work when they come. They must be selling a pretty good volume of them. I just hope I don't go into MOTU withdrawal! LOL!
