Bringing back vox from road back to main studio?

Have a project in Sonar 8.5 with a lead vocal, Dim Pro 1.5 instruments and some Kontakt instruments.

Wanted to know the best way for me to transfer that project to my laptop (which has 8.5 too) so that I can go to the location of someone who will do backing vocals for that project. I then want to transfer that project back to the main studio computer.

My confusion stems from the fact that my sample library on the laptop library may not contain every sound I need, or, they are not edited and saved yet as I have done with the sample that are on the home studio computer.

Didn't know the pro's and con's of freezing tracks or saving as a bundle, or maybe just exporting to a final mix that can sit as a track in the project, solo that, let the vocalist sing with it to  line it up for timing, then just mute it back at the main studio?

Thanks.

I do this all the time. Don't worry about a backing track be the same as what your final mix uses, As long as the singer can give a good performance it's not important the quality of the backing track. If there is a lot of missing VST then I would make a stereo audio mix with in the project by bouncing to track.

What I do is easy. Just drag and drop the folder with the CPW and audio file to a flash drive and open it on the second computer.
Record the new tracks and save backup to the flash drive.
Take the flash drive back to the original and import the new tracks from the audio folder.
Good idea to name those tracks something easy to recognize before you record them.

Thanks. Sounds simple and efficient. Just was wondering if there were pro's and con's to doing it this way or that way, but this sounds fine.

Always surprised, and suspicious, when something with computers and music is this easy.

    One more thing, off topic.

I notice my Kontakt instruments can't be controlled (pan and volume) from within Sonar, I have to go into the instrument rack and do it there. Should it be that way do you  know?

Finally, am I the only one that finds the solo and mute buttons in Sonar 8.5 too small? Did they grow in X1?

Hey garvey - just do a stereo bounce for backing tracks and record your singer against that.  Easy on the CPU and drive.  Then drop it in back at home.
