Broken Edirol PCR-30 Midi Controller

I've just broken the USB socket on my PCR- 30 midi controller. There's still power going to the unit but now the midi transmission is intermitant. I contacted Edirol and they seem to think a new input/output card would be more expensive than a new unit.

If I use the supplied power supply and got myself a midi cable and used this rather than USB would this solve my problem. Or should I bite the bullet and get myself a new controller.

Any suggestions for a new one. I was thinking anyway that I needed a bigger keyboard as I find 32 a bit limiting. I was looking at the Novation Remote 61. It seems to have a good spec and I've heard that the key action is good as this was also something I was after.

    I have the PCR50 and always use the midi cable + power supply. I don't like USB. Save youself some money and use a midi cable. I even have an M-Audio Uno on one of my machines that uses usb to a midi port connector just so I dont have to use the USB directly from the Edirol.

    pcr-30 owner and I use the midi cable

    usb is busy enough with other things

    when i saw the topic, i though you'd worn out some of the key pads. this is an issue with some early edirol models (and may be why they changed the beds on the updated product)
