Browser previews not playing all the way to the end?

Is anyone else experiencing this?
When previewing audio clips in the browser, playback would sometimes cut off before finishing... Ugh!

And tying into that; when trying to preview an audio file in the browser more than once (one click followed by another), you just end up with the edit-file-name thingy as if I'm in the Windows explorer. Could we get a fix on that, please?!

Something like this should've been sorted out in past updates looong ago but I guess things like a 'Fullscreen' and 'Add Track' button were more pressing at the time.

Based on the response, apparently not...I don't, although admittedly, I've never tried to play anything much over 4 minutes. You give no indication of how long the file plays before it "cuts off"...10 seconds? 1 minute? 10 minutes? Remember, the Browser's intention is to provide a "Preview." There may be some arbitrary memory limit as to how much RAM will be given up to store previewed audio.

SONAR includes a user-settable length for DSP audition times; you could request a similar parameter for preview times although I don't know how many others would consider this important. If I need to hear what something sounds like 8 minutes into a file, I'll drag it into the project and set the now time at 8 minutes rather than listen to it all the way through from the start.

It was never broken, you're invoking the rename function. To play a clip again from the beginning, hit Stop, then Play. Being able to play a file by clicking it once is a shortcut that's tied into using the Auto-Preview function. This function assumes you're going to be auditioning multiple presets serially. However Stop/Play works whether or not Auto-Preview is selected.

Given that I couldn't find any references to anyone else not finding several minutes of preview time enough, and the Stop/Play function isn't broken, at least to me just about anything else would seem more pressing. YMMV.

I should've included this bit of info before but the files aren't long audio files. They're samples/loops.

I'm used to the more simple approach in other DAWs like FL Studio, Live and Maschine where there is no Play/Stop button to restart the playback on a file in the browser so, with SONAR the workflow feels a bit slower in comparison.

I'll have a look at the browser audition settings and see if there's anything there.

    Thanks for replying!

Hmmm...my browser playback runs out at around 5 minutes, so you should not be having problems with short samples or loops.

That's understandable. SONAR's browser is not simple - among other things it's bi-directional, does drag and drop for plug-ins, accesses the project audio folder, and can do "multitrack" loop browsing by ctrl+clicking files in Auto-Preview mode...great for construction kit libraries when you want to see if a particular bass loop works with a particular drum loop. But I would assume there was also a design decision behind the way it works, with the assumption that once you're heard a loop, it's more likely you'd want to rename it than play it again.

I'll have a look at the browser audition settings and see if there's anything there.

The browser settings are for auditioning DSP processes, so I don't see how they would affect the browser (mine's set for 3 seconds so obviously, that's not putting a limit on browser playback). I don't know what would cause the browser playback to stop after a few seconds, I've never had that happen with any version of SONAR unless I stopped it deliberately by selecting another loop.

Hi, I already had this issue, on the Lexington update.
I like hijacked one thread with similar issue and Craig suggested changing the Preview settings. So I clicked on Loop Preview and it worked, as some Sony Creative Software wave samples started to play through the end.

I remember the issue appeared to be fixed on the Manchester update, but I checked it today after reading this thread, and the bug seems to be back again.

Edit: You could try changing the Loop Preview on the Browser settings, as it still works for me. : )

    Best regards

I had similar effects on an older version of Sonar. With the patience of scook and other members here I found that:

I had been starting a new project using a standard template, then to get more vertical space I was deleting all unneeded buses, including (unwittingly) the one the clip preview was using.

So the preview bus was now set to a bus that didn't exist!

I would save this project and use it as a template for other projects.

Using this template, if I tried to preview a clip, it worked but with many random side effects, like starting in the middle, finishing early, etc.

scook kindly submitted the bug and it was fixed in a later version.

    But perhaps it's back?
