Judas Priest too? Man - he's earned that Courtney Love award. And the next. Until recently, when I thought of Bruce Dickinson, I thought of the timeless classic that is The Number of the Beast. Which unfortunately, inevitably reminded me of... Two hours of otherwise perfectly fine live heavy metal music ruined by that Dickinson fellow screaming at the top of his lungs, hitting that one note he could reach, clinging to it and gasping for air for the whole duration of the show... Autocues never bothered me half as much as that... Judas Priest forever!

I could never stomach Dickinson's singing. He uses vibrato to cover up the fact that he can't hold a note, and it sounds like a drunk trying to sing opera on the walk home from the pub.

"Punk musicians can't play their f*ckin' instruments". Whether you love or hate the genre, there is no falsehood in that statement. More surprising is that he thinks punk music is still relevant enough to warrant comment. Up until today, I thought Bruce Dickinson was the name of Christopher Walken's SNL character that coined the phrase "more cowbell".

Oh come on guys, if you actually read the article Bruce never says "Punk musicians can't play their instruments..." In fact he's saying the opposite. He's talking about "the art establishment". They (the "art establishment") could say: "Oh yeah, we're punk so we can sneer at everybody. We can't play our f*&^ing instruments, but that means we can make out that this whole thing is some enormous performance art." and goes on to say... Half the kids that were in punk bands were laughing at the art establishment, going: "What a f&^%ing bunch of tosspots. Thanks very much, give us the money" And he's exactly right!

Sounded like he made all those opinions up on the spot. ''He believes there's a failure to understand why metal fans love metal, and compares their passion to that of sports fans.'' Oh, reeeally?

As Mrs Doyle would probably agree, Bruce is a massive tool.... Seriously, the guy is a fake. A poser. He dons a leather jacket and think that makes him a rocker. I saw him perform before he joined Maiden as the wittily named 'Bruce Bruce' when he was singer of NWOBHM stalwarts Samson. Paul Samson had put together a great band, both musically, and as a live act - their trademark being mask-wearing drummer 'Thunderstick' who played inside a cage. And then along came Bruce and fecked it up. And here's the proof: If you can stand it, have a flick through some of this 1981 footage to see how bad he could be - typically great music (although the cage is now gone) spoiled by Brucie's inadequacies... I was lucky enough to see Maiden with Paul D'Anno, before they'd even released their eponymous debut, and he absolutely tore the place up. Magnificent. I also saw one-time Maiden vocalist Blaze Bayley in his band Wolfsbane a couple of years back, and he was superb. In the words of Anne Robinson, "Bruce, you are the weakest link..... feck off"

Not sure why Maiden kept him for so long for all those albums. I too like Paul D. much better......IIRC, he was in a punk band or joined a punk band around the early Maiden years no?

you're all mad. Di'Anno is a compete and utter twat for whom drugs and wife-beating are top pastimes, and Blaze is lovely but not a Maiden singer. Unfortunately Bruce is a middle-class chap who is one of the all-time great rock vocalists. He also says some ridiculous things at times. I am almost disbelieving that you Rain and Steve are really saying this...it's April 1st,right? I mean, I love Killers and Maiden Japan but Bruce took them onto a new level.

As I said, the Number of the Beast is way up there on my list. Piece of Mind I also dig. His voice deteriorated quickly however, and even if one could argue that the relentless touring in those days taxed his voice, at the end of the day, the fact remain that he became very painful to listen to. And there's a rawness to Killers, a pink-ish, no BS street edge which Maiden lost after DiAnno was gone. Some of the stuff they wrote afterward was actually pretty self-conscious and self-indulging, borderline pretentious.

He sounds like a blind drunk karaoke singer doing a very poor impression of Robert Plant in that Samson video.

Hi, I still have not given Iron Maiden a listen. So much stuff that I want to hear, other than just chord changes of the same thing!
As a wise Guy once stated from his holy chapala ... none of the hits, none of the time ... prevents you from becoming just another turkey in the middle of all the other turkeys!
