Is that the priest from that Zombie flick that says, "I kick ass for the Lord!" as he takes on a bunch of Zombie's in a graveyard?

Reminds me more of the Irish Priest from Father Ted.

I don't know why he bothered.

The idea of a few days off-work and he loses focus straight away...

yeah, but ....well....but.....

I conducted two constant-speed wind-up turns, one at 160kt and one at 200kt. With 90% TQ set - at 10° nose down and 160kt - the aircraft was pulled progressively up to +5g showing that the back stick displacement/g gradient was linear and that the manoeuvre boundary at this g level was indicated by stick force and very light wing buffet, but with no wing rock.

gee.  that makes sense.

I still don't know what a wing buffet is and now I also don't know what a wing rock is!!!!

I thought you worked with planes in some capacity......you should know this stuff.

Wing buffet occurs as the wing reaches stall. the air flow is beginning to break up from the smooth flow that creates lift as the angle of attack is increased, and as the wind flow becomes turbulent, the wings vibrate a bit, sometimes a lot....and that is called wing buffet. The vibration in a small aircraft can easily shake the entire plane like riding over rumble strips in a car.  When you feel it..... you either increase power, bring the nose down or proceed into a stall and hope there is enough altitude for a proper recovery.

As a private pilot, I have trained with slow speed stalls and they are quite hairy the first few times. (Imagine that first big drop in a roller coaster... but higher) Most small planes are stalled by the pilots on either take off  by trying to climb over trees at the end of the runway or  at landing making the final approach too slow. .... but stalls can and do occur at high speeds as well.... especially in jets in a high G maneuver or a turn.  Accelerated stalls are not fun..... as anyone who has been through one can tell you.  They all have that classic buffeting before the stall breaks.

Wing rock.... rotation about the center axis generally beyond the control of the pilot... back and forth.. in a rocking motion.... l have never experience this but I imagine it to be quite disconcerting. Definitely worse than buffeting. You see this in videos as a plane goes out of control just before it breaks apart in mid air. It makes for on heck of a ride.

Reece.... just for grins, you should head to a local airport which has a training program for private pilots and ask for a 30 minute demo ride, and ask specifically for the  instructor to demonstrate an approach stall... power off is fine..... power on stalls are a bit more exciting because you have the engine torque trying to flip the plane over in addition to the stall....those tend to be practiced with a little more distance to the ground for obvious reasons........ Just so you can feel the buffeting and experience the feel of what it's like in a small plane in a stall.  The instructor will probably let you have control of the plane for this.....and the entire experience should not be to expensive.

actually, I was just joking, herb.

but technically my job has nothing to do with airplane terminology of flight.  My job for the last 15 years has been primarily the design and testing of equipment releated to the stores management on fighter jets.  stores management doesn't need to know about wing buffet, wing rock, pitch, yaw, none of that.  we just need to know how to release a missile when the pilot pushes the button!

glad to hear that..... the thought of you working on military aircraft and not knowing those terms..... that was a bit frighting....

but the advice to take a ride and experience it first hand still applies.... unless you have already done that too.
