Bug? Cannot delete MIDI clips

Hi all,

I'm running SONAR 22.12.0, Steam edition, on Windows 8.1. I've been experiencing this issue intermittently for a long time but I finally caught it in action today.

Once in a while I will have a clip whereby I cannot Copy and Paste. Whenever I Ctrl-V nothing happens. But for other clips there were no problems.

I finally figured out how to copy it another way by right clicking the clip, select Edit, and then Copy. And did the same for Paste, and it worked.

Now I realized for this particular clip, I am also not able to delete it by just pressing Delete. Edit -> Delete doesn't work either. I had to enter the piano roll and delete the notes from there.

Again I could delete all other clips the normal way, except for this affected clip.

I also managed to take a video of me trying to delete the affected clip, versus a normal clip. (First two tries are on the affected clips, third try is on the normal clip) and one can easily see how I'm not able to delete the first two clips, but I could delete the third very easily.

Here is the video.

I guess would like to ask if anyone experienced this before? The thing about this is that everytime I Ctrl-V and nothing happens, I assumed I would have pasted it somewhere else and I would Ctrl-Z to undo the change. But when it is because of this bug, Ctrl-Z will undo the previous action I did - and I would not want that to happen.

I wish I can provide more info, but this issue happens so randomly I can only be happy that I manage to record it as it happens now.

Any advice would be helpful. Thanks!

Before you can Ctrl V (paste) you have to Ctrl C (copy) something.

    Hi,

Yes I am aware of that. I did Ctrl C, repeatedly. But Ctrl V yielded no results, for that clip. For other clips Ctrl V worked wonders.

And the video didn't show me trying to paste a clip. It showed me trying to delete a clip and I couldn't delete it - in such a case I don't think I need to "Ctrl C" anything in order to delete anything.

    I just watched your video.
Is it possible the clip is locked ? Go to Clip lock (in that same right click context menu).

You maybe don't have your midi track that you would like to paste to as the selected track. This will Ctrl-V your data alright, but to some other (the selected) track. That's what Paste Special is for. Special people like me.

For the Delete issue, it looks a little like your Edit Filter is set to something other than Clips so you're not to selecting the clip. It's hard to tell whether the green lines represent note events or maybe Volume Automation, but the light gray bands on top and bottom of the clip should not be there and the whole clip should be highlighted light gray when selected. The cursor looks like the normal clip selection cursor rather than the automation edit cursor, so it's hard to be sure, but one way or another, I think the clip is not getting selected.

Perhaps when you paste, you don't have the paste time set and you're pasting in the same place as the original clip. So when you try to delete the clip, you're deleting the pasted copy instead of the original clip, thus leaving the original in place so it appears as if nothing was deleted.
    I know, kinda far-fetched.

Actually, I was headed that way myself until I noticed the clip didn't appear to be selected. Could be a combination of issues is at play.

    Thanks all for the comments.

I've uploaded another video here which probably disproves the following hypothesis:

    1) There are no multiple clips pasted at the same location. I'm able to shift the clip left and right and there's nothing beneath it.
    2) The grey band on top and bottom of the clip are also present when I selected the first clip (right at the start of the video) and I could delete that clip with no issues

    In the video:

    - First I showed that I was able to delete the first clip in that track with no problems.
    - Then I showed that I couldn't delete the second clip in the same track even after doing the same thing (Edit -> Delete)
    - Then I repeatedly press the "delete" button, one can see the mouse icon keeps alternating between the "hourglass" and the "arrow". Nothing happens. The clip still cannot be deleted.

    What I did notice is:

    - The color of the clip that is deletable is orange
    - The color of the clip that is not deletable is yellow.

Should the colors be the same if they belong to the same MIDI track?

It is possible to choose different colors for individual clips in the same track, and that shouldn't matter. I'm still thinking this has something to do with Edit Filters. Try Showing lanes and toggling the Edit Filter(s) in lanes. If all else fails, try deleting the MIDI via the PRV, and chalk it up to random project corruption if that works.

One other thing I noticed:  The Performance Meter shows your audio disk space usage is nearly maxed out out. Even though this should all be happening in RAM, all kinds of weirdness can happen when a disk gets full, especially if that's your system drive.
