Built a new DIY studio rack this weekend **Show off your stuff thread**

I wanted it to hold my existing rack box for the live PA and live board (on top).  In the middle is my new saffire pro 40, and my new preamp.  and the bottom shelf holds my computer and battery back up/surge protector (I live in the lightening capital of the world....).  Painted it up to match the desk I built a year or so ago.
Came out as designed and works sweet, iit looks pretty cool too.

Desk I built:

A shot of my studio:

Did I throw the frisbee on the roof and ruin the game or something?  haha    Just suprised at the lack of any comment.

    Pretty cool Chuck.
I knocked this one out a couple of weeks ago for the new studio build.

I can pull the front panel and have complete access to both patch bays for easy reconfig.

    Thanks Herb!

Tom - Now that looks cool!  Nice toys.... I want em'!
    Functional looking design too.

John- That's quite the set up there, Very Nice.
I recognize the Ikea pull-out computer keyboard/mouse shelf.  I was looking at those the other day... for $10 I am going to order one.
The paint was just because I wanted something artsy/inspirational/rocking to look at.  When I was 18 or so and moved out of my parents house to get my 1st place I went to goodwill and bought some old lamps that were UGLY orange (think the 70's)  I painted them gray and splattered black paint on them and the shades.  I always loved the look of those things.

I bought so much crap from Aurelex when I built the studio (stuio foam, bass traps, sheet block for i the walls & ceiling, adhesives,  and acoustic caulking) that they sent me some free gifts - stickers, a t-shirt, and that logo made from studio foam so it's cool looking and helps with acoustics!

    Chuck,
    Thanks.

    John
    Oak, actually.
Next project , tidy up the desk design for the FW-1884 and get it built.
I've decided I don't have room for the FE-8, that will leave room on the right for another rack, mostly drawers probably.
    This is the temporary setup

I think I want the keyboard, mouse and FW all on the same level.
Yours is on top, what do you think?

    Tom,
I want my keyboard/mouse lower to make it easier and need to add wrist pad for those long edit sessions.

I assume by FW you mean your firewire mixer?  Yet another element I lack for now.  I have been trying to put money toward upgrades to improve my capabilities and sound quality.  Putting that priority over ease of use.  For now I mix ITB but eventually I will get one because...  you know... I want it?

If I had it to do over again I would have made the desk a bit wider so it fit a 2nd monitor screen.  I see you have 3?  SHOW OFF!  haha
I also should have designed it so that:
    a) the spaces between the main desk and the back shelf actually fit rack gear (this was just a STUPID oversight on my part).
    b) I should have left no shelf in the middle so my screen(s) sat lower and required less head/eye movement to see them.  An ergonomic design flaw that was again, a dumb thing I didn't think about at the time.  Maybe someday I'll take it apart and fix it up the way I now know would be better.

    Chuck,
I love my FW-1884 control surface, almost like having a "real" console.
All my mixing is in the box, although I have 8 in and 8 out on the FW-1884.
Like dither, I kind of feel that once is enough with the AD/DA.
Unless of course you have real high end converters.
I don't have to "lift" my head to see my monitors; I look straight "down" into them.
I'm playing with the "desk" now to see how I really want it setup.
Can't tell you how many times I built/modified desks and racks in the home office "studio".
My new space is a little small, but its quiet and I'm on my own.
Just remember its all about the "journey".
