"Bulletproof" (big time cakewalk collab!)

I had posted a bass/drum blues groove looking for a collab on the song forum, and I was lucky enough that these wonderful, talented people helped me make this into a song:

I can't thank them enough...

Randy Prier "rsp@odyssey.net"(vocals & lyrics)
Michael Henley "Spacey" (all guitar)
Bob Blanton "RobertB" (organ)
Janet Wohlgemut "Mamabear" (piano)
Ron Ferguson "rolifer@verizon.net" (synth violin)
Me (bass, drum programming, mixing)

Randy, Spacey, Bob, Janet, Ron, Dave - you simply rock

There's a touch of sheer class in every part in this collab - I tried having a word with Soundclick but they won't let me give this 6 stars I'm afraid!

Just brilliant - I'd love to be in the audience if you guys and gal took the stage

Wow Dave, this song rocks. This one grabbed me right away - I liked how the song gets down to business right away.

Excellent piano break around 1:37 - kudos to Janet, then followed by that cool organ section by Robert.

I enjoyed your lead vox/harmonies Randy - nice job, a soulful performance - "Look What You've Done" - perfect hook for the song.

Tasteful guitar tones and performance by Michael - that was nicely done as well - cool chord on the ending.

Ron - that's the first time I've heard you in a song like this - that was a wild section you played - sounded great.

Dave - props to your rhythm section - the bass sounds great.

All you need now is a name for the band

    IMO, a 5-star tune.

    Cheers,
    Doug

Steve - wow, what great feedback!! Yeah I would love to play live with this group...

Doug - thanks for the detailed comments! Everyone really brought their own flavor and it seems to work together quite well.

JamzOr - thanks, groovy is good!!!

    Thanks James!!

Jamesyoyo - It's a combination of a Sony drum loops (drums from the big room) and some single hits from another kit. Just had to do a minimal amount of slicing and dicing and mainly used the loop explorer to emphasize certain hits to make it groove right...

    Drumstixkev - thanks man!!

    robby - to you too...

Notnat - thanks, I love Janet's part and then it kind of kicks into freak-out mode - one of my favorite parts, too!

Thanks, Rick - glad you liked it!!

I really appreciate all of the great feedback...

Thanks everybody. And thanks to all for having me play. Dave's energy is great and made it very cool.
A couple of first's for me...my first collaboration and it was a blast. And I'm sure the first lead I've ever done before hearing the song.
And to hear it completed...what a great group of musicians and I'm very proud to have been a part of this.

Everybody just fell into the groove, and it felt very "live" as we played off of each other.

When I first heard Dave's bass and drum tracks, I was thinking this might be a fun kinda thing to be a part of. You know, come up with some typical blues lyrics, do my blues "growl" voice, blah, blah blah. But sheesh, when I got the first mix with everybody's tracks together, I was like "these cats aren't screwin around!" Man this came out great! Robert, you helped me get going about 2 years ago with GT3, so its very cool to be a part of something like this with you. Dave, I owed you one, and I hope this makes up for it. One thing about me is, I may be slow, but I always take awhile. Great mix Dave, just great!

To everybody else that played on this, it was an honor. Great performances!

To everyone who listened and commented, thanks.

Oh, I almost forgot. My wife said this sounded like "Los Lonely Boys", and a few commented about seeing this group live, and someone asked what we should name the band. My suggestion is this.

"Los Old Guys & a Hot Mama"

LOL! You didn't tell your wife that, did you?

Anyway, thanks guys. Dave made this extremely easy. I just played along for a few minutes, sent it to him and asked if it was anywhere what he had in mind. Surprisingly enough, he said it was. Not long after that I heard that piano solo and was I ever surprised! LOL I'm glad it worked. And yes, this would be a lot more fun live.

Man, very nice groove. Everything in this is just top notch guys. Alot of times with collabs things can sound a tad disjointed, there is none of that here. Everyone grooves along very smoothly. I am impressed! Randy you sound great, the guitar is perfect as well, hell everyone sounds amazing in this. Definitely one of the best collabs I have heard. Just some killer runs in this as well.

    Hey guys,
Does sound a bit like Los Lonely vocals.
The vocals are a bit late or behind the beat to me, and there is a general "looseness" that I think could be tightened up if that was a goal.
I've mixed some internet collabs so I know its sometimes hard to line stuff up exactly.
Some of the solos seem to step on one another…and check out 1:43 for possible clashing parts.
Just a few ideas from an impartial listener… If you’re happy with it, call it done.

Ed, Shad & Jon - thanks so much for the comments!! RLD - thanks for the comment on the vox. I was wondering if I needed to nudge the vocal clip to the left a few milliseconds so now that someone else has mentioned it I will check it out... As far as the solos stepping on each other in places, I'm cool with it. Considering some of the parts were done without hearing any of the other parts besides the bass/drum tracks, they work together surprisingly well, but I appreciate the input!

Thanks again to my awesome co-collaborators!!

Thanks, John!! Ron - your part is very unique for a bluesy tune but somehow fits in and adds a really dramatic ending to the song. It's not the same without it so thank you!!!
