Bundles open but NOT Project files or new project_X1d_New computer build

I beg your help please... New computer build. Sonar X1d: --WILL open most cakewalk bundles that were created with 8.5 or X1 on the old computer and they work fine. --WILL open my project files _from the old computer) from my secondary drive --WON'T start a new project. I get a white screen like it's thinking about it. It just never happens. White Screen of Death anybody? --WON'T open my most recent project, which was started on my old computer. Won't start from either a CWP or CWB. The only difference between it and the previous several projects were the incorporation of some .wav files from someone elses Sonar 4-based computer. My Computer: Mobo: MSI z77a-GD80 (Thunderbolt) CPU: i7 3770 3.5 GHz Ivy Bridge Memory: 16GB 16000 DDR3 G.Skill Ripjaw series Solid State Drives: Samsung 256GB x 2 Hard Drive: Seagate 1.5TB x 2 Soundcard: RME HDSPe-AES Converters: MYTEK 96 DAC/ADC It's a dual boot system. 64 Bit Windows 7 exclusively for Sonar and audio related stuff. 32-Bit Windows 7 for general computing. The projects that do open produce audio output and function completely normally in every way that I can tell (limited messing around on the new computer though) All other audio works fine such as Youtube, CD Playback, etc. It is my desire to archive all audio data for old projects on my hard drive and all active projects on the SSD. Again, your help is supremely appreciated. I really don't know what else to do and I can't find anyone that's had similar problems through the search function.

Won't start from either a CWP or CWB.
Do you mean you try to start the projects from the Resource Management view clicking the project name icon, not via SONARs "Open" command??
    If so, try inside SONAR.

Either way.  I usually open a project from the Sonar startup screen.

I installed 8.5 and all the updates just to see what would happen.  It won't open anything.

It's unpack a CWP and it appears like it's working.  The progress meter look functional while unpacking all the respective files and then just as it's ready to actually post the files to be visible, it gets hung up with the little Windows progress circle spinning infinitely.

Same result now in X1 and 8.5 whether opening a project or a bundle.

    Is there an error message?

Remember CWPs do not contain the audio tracks, only pointers to the audio tracks which are stored elsewhere. Did you use Per Project folders to keep the CWPs and audio tracks together?

How were these WAV files from someone else's computer incorporated. Not clear on that. And are those the only ones that don't open?

I tried opening a project in safe mode WITH the plug-ins (UAD-2 stuff) and it worked fine. I then saved the project under a different name and re-opened X1 and it worked fine. So what does all this mean? It's good that this works, but I still don't understand the root cause of the problem. to answer daveny5: 1. No error message. Blank screen where the track view, etc should be. I can see the perimeter of the Sonar screen. The border, all the pull down menus in the upper left, etc. 2. The .wav files were just vocal files I imported directly into Sonar. Same as you would any wav file.

I don't have any experience with UAD stuff, so I'm out.

The UAD stuff doesn't seem to be the issue (I think) as the same thing happens with projects that don't use any plug-ins.

Maybe you have a bad memory chip. Run the Windows7 memory test or download memtest and burn it to a cd and run it overnight.

I'm not a fan of dual boot systems. It enough to keep one operating system up-to-date much less 2.

I uninstalled everything and re-installed only the very original iteration of X1 to see what happens...same damn thing.  Can't start a new file.  Old ones mostly open fine (cwp and cwb)

Maddening!  Maybe this is my sign I should give up trying to make music.  "No music for you", sayeth the Sonar nazi.

When you uninstalled, did you delete the necessary Registry Keys?

If you didn't, you probably wasted your time with the re-install

I was thinking he may have installed Expanded on top of X1d which can cause problems.

But now I see he's back to X1 (no patches)

S Effren - this will not work! The original X1 was as buggy as hell and you need to be operating to at least X1c, preferably X1d, but in order to get there you have to do a lot of groundwork first.

    1) Completely un-install SONAR from your computer. This is normally done from Start | Programs | Cakewalk. This will not remove any of your project files or audio data.

    2) Next you will want to open the Run Command

    a) In Windows XP this can be done by going to Start | Run
     b) In Windows Vista and 7 this can be done by holding down the ‘windows’ key and pressing ‘r’

    3) At the prompt type regedit and click OK.

***Backup your Registry before making edits - you do this by clicking the File menu, Export Registry File.   ***

    4) Now delete the following Registry keys:
     HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR Producer\X1
     HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Cakewalk Music Software\SONAR Producer\X1

NOTE  that this will remove any effects presets and key bindings you may have made in Cakewalk. You can back these up separately if you like, using Options|Key Bindings, Tools|SONAR Plug-in Manager, and Options|Colors. Hit F1 in these views for detailed instructions on how to do this.

    5) Open the 'Run' command again.

    6) Copy and paste the following into the prompt:   %appdata%\Cakewalk

    7) This will open your Cakewalk Application Data folder, right-click on the SONAR folder and choose rename.
    8) Rename this folder SONAR X1 Backup.

    9) Open the 'Run' command again and type msconfig Click OK and then click on the Startup tab at the upper right of the window that opens.

    10) Uncheck all items listed, click OK, then restart your computer. You can always recheck those items again at a later time.

    11) Then reinstall SONAR. Make sure to have any virus scanners disabled on installation. It is not required or recommended to turn off any windows services.

    12) Start by installing X1.

    13) Now install the X1c patch

    14) Now install Expanded (if you have it)

    15) Finally install X1d

It helps to run a defrag before intalling too. I've found that fragmented drives can confuse the willies out of Sonar.

...AND make sure you run the "X1D Expanded" patch, not the "X1D" patch. 2 different animals.
