"Burnin' Coals" - a Christian Song
Merry Christmas to all! Here is a new song I finished all in Sonar. This is a song about a gospel story of Jesus and the apostles. Still working on my lead playing but am happy with this. Remixed 12/25/14: https://soundcloud.com/jimmy-saad/burnin-coals-2 All comments welcome. Jimmy

Jimmy , your song sounds very profesional …really like what you did with the vocals . guitar has a nice sound and I like how you brought it in early like it skipped a beat …that was a nice touch … near the end of the solo it drifts a little w the timing ….most folks would probably not notice it … Kenny

Nice country rock feel to this one Jimmy. Your lead playing is coming along nicely. Mix sounds pretty good to my ears.

I liked it. Sound cloud seems to trim off freqs above 18. Nice work.

Hi Kenny. Thanks for the listen and nice words. That solo does get a little message toward the end. It took me hours to get even that. Need to clean it up a bit I think.

Much thanks MakeShift. I have been working on my lead playing but not "there" yet. I checked this mix on my K240's and my ATH M50's and it stood up well so I decided to go for it. The bass and kick seem right to me.

Hey gswitz, thanks for the listen. I agree about the degradation with SoundCloud but to me honest, I don't think I can hear anything above 12K anyway! Nothing I can do about that. I also did not compress the heck out of this mix and as a result, it sounds good to me played back loud in the cans but seems a tad low in volume through SoundCloud. I was not trying to make a CD ready mix at this point but needed some opinions/comments before I kept going.

Rimshot, Sounds good. A little verb heavy for my taste but it works. The lead vocals seems a little muddy to me, I think if you EQ the verb that might take some muddiness out. Like maybe HPF the LVox at around 500k? That might do it. Anyway, nicely performed and I like the song. The vocal harmonies are perfect... I thought your guitar solo was good. Sounds like a live performance... Regards

Hey Mark - thanks for the listen. I will try your suggestion on the LVoc. Never did the HP on the verb so I will try. The lead guitar was done live but it took me about 50 takes and my left hand started going numb! Yikes! Thanks for the kind words on the song and harmonies.

Sounds real good here - the bottom end seems solid. I didn't hear the first version but the lead vocals sound fairly crisp in this one, it cuts through nicely. Everything seems well balanced left to right, top to bottom. Love the harmonies and the solo - well done!
