Bus Automation Copy & Paste

Is there a reason you cannot copy/paste bus automation? I really don't understand the rhyme or reason for such a limitation. Is it a bug or is it supposed to function this way?

It's a long standing bug. I keep hoping it'll get fixed one day.

There is a work round of sorts. You can use a dummy track to build up the automation and then paste it to a buss in one go, but it's so convoluted I find it easier just to recreate the automation where I want it.

I filed a bug report several versions ago. It seems that the problem is pasting knocks out any existing automation regardless of where the paste happens, coupled with not always inserting the correct number of repetitions = I no longer bother. Although I suspect the bug is in the copy rather than the paste as it is inconsistent for me at least.

I'm hoping it gets fixed at some point.
