Is there a way of deleting all automation?

Could you just delete the automation lanes? Not sure if that would work. Just speculating.

Re: Bus automation question 2013/11/07 13:06:09 (permalink)
Hey Beepy! Long time no speak....

Basically I am too lazy to build templates and sometimes in my workflow I will load the last project for all these lovely FX and Guitar stacks I have built so I will just load a song and use the stacks but I always automate across songs as of course, every song is different.... and because I Bus alot I recorded some automation on my main guitar bus, the problem is there is no way of seeing the automation on the bus (on the tracks yes, but bus no)

Anyway, my work around was just to re-record the automation on the bus on a zero and re-write the automation....It would be a nice feature if we could actually see the automation on the bus?

(before anyone shouts at me, I know how to put in a feature request!)

Anyway, I did a workaround....and it worked. Not ideal...but it worked.

Yeah, hiya, Mark. Hasn't been that long has it? Hope you've been well.

Anyway, I was looking at this just yesterday in regards to another question someone had and there are indeed automation lanes for busses. Are you not seeing them? Let me know and I'll take a look. I think there is a Clear Automation option as well but darned if I know here it is. I haven't messed with automation too much but am about to give myself a crash course now that I'm close to the (re)mixing phase of my tester project.

Cheers.

Okay... try this.

Open the bus

Click the Show Lanes button

Right click on a node

Select "Clear All"

Now the envelope should reset.

Hope that helps.

PS: I did that in X2 but it should be the same in X3 unless they drastically changed automation lanes which I don't think they have. Cheers.

I must be doing something wrong...my busses are only open in the console surely?

maybe I am so old skool I have missed out on making busses appear in track view?

Re: Bus automation question 2013/11/07 13:29:29 (permalink)
Oh... I see. Yeah, man. You have to drag the Busses up into the Track Pane. To do this hover the cursor at the very bottom of the Track Pane until it turns into double arrows pointing up/down then click and drag upward. Now you'll have access to all your busses in theTrack Pane.

Crap, man. Not having access to those must have been a MASSIVE pain. Those panes have tons of useful and in some cases CRUCIAL controls (like you can use the wavform button to see a visual readout of the bus output and of course that's where the automation lanes live). Hope that gets things working for you.

Cheers.

But can you see the Bus Pane now? There is a keyboard shortcut to make it popup too but I'd have to dig through my notes to find it. I usually just drag it up...

You know, I could really use that shortcut. BRB.

Edit: Show/Hide Bus Pane in X2 is Shift + B.

Probably the same in X3. Cheers.

I find it very weird that you can highlight a track and cut all the automation, but that you can't do this with a bus.  I have actually had to take the razor blade and cut node by by node, which is really dumb.

Are you still unable to get the Bus Pane visible, Mark? If you don't access to the keybinding try dragging it up into view like I said.

In the Track Pane (left side of the track view where the track controls are) go to the very bottom border of the pane. The cursor should change and you can then just drag it upward. In fact maybe trying going through your screensets as there might be a default one that has the bus pane visible.

@konradh... How to you mean? Cut? Like Ctrl + X cut for copying or just clearing the envelope? Like I said just right click the node to clear all. Not sure how range select would work for stuff like this but I'll try later. Cheers.

Yup all automation now cleared and an old skool Sonar user learnt a new trick!  Again, cheers buddy!

I swear to God Sonar is getting like Pro Tools where half the features aren't in any options but are in little shortcuts, not a grumble or anything.

I might have to sir down for half a day and check on all the keybindings and see if there are other features I need.

Re: Bus automation question 2013/11/08 11:45:05 (permalink)
Sonar has a lot going for it but unless you know where everything is already it's not particularly intuitive. Everything is hidden. On my old DAW I didn't even have a manual or a user support forum and a managed to get a couple albums done with it. This is why all I've really done the past year is study the program but haven't actually gotten anything done. Worth it though. Things are a whole fartload easier now. It's mostly just my own madness and methods that trip me up now... like my current adventure of trying to completely duplicate a live recorded drum kit set up using the limited outputs of BFD Eco and the weird way Sonar imports multi timbral synths that incorporate mono AND stereo signals. After a few weeks of messing with this I finally figured out the answer and once I go through the process from start to finish a couple times I'll be writing an article/tutorial for the forum.

lol... i'm crazy...

When Sonar first came out I was a little perturbed that the buss pane took up so much space and had no idea why. I think it was around Sonar 3 that it dawned on me what all that space was for. It was like a light went off in my head and I felt so dumb. One reason I felt that way is because i must have cursed that empty space almost every time I use Sonar.  I had to smile at CW for providing something I didn't even know was there even it was staring me in the face for at least 3 years.

Keep in mind that Pro Audio did not have the buss pane and that was what I was use to. Oh well. Live and learn.

It took me a loooong time to remember it was there even after I had learned it was. Lots of "WTF are my busses?!" then the ole forehead slap and "Duh." It is far better being able to get it out of the way though. Just like the controller pane in the PRV. Most of the time you just don't need it but when you do you NEED it.

I had a similar problem in X2 I think. I forget exactly how I got rid of them but I somehow managed to isolate them in the Controllers Pane and then just drug the divider down so I couldn't see it. Then it stayed that way. However I just took another look and I think I have a better solution. Go the PRV View menu labeled Notes and fiddle around with the options in there. That seems to hide the controllers wherever they are. Something may have changed in X3 but yeah, between the Views > Show/Hide Controller Pane and Notes Show/Hide Velcocity this that and the other I'm sure you could get something less annoying. I know I really hated having those stupid things creeping up into my notes. I just can't remember exactly how I solved it permanently nor whether it will apply in X3.

Feel free to copy/pasta this into that thread. I have a phone call to make and should probably get some work done today now that I finally have all my drums bounced to audio. I THINK I'm ready to mix... three weeks later. lol

Cheers.

Is there a way of deleting all automation?

Select all the busses. from the main menu select Edit--->Delete special. Check the "Track/Bus automation" option - deselect other options as required. Click ok and you are done.
