Buss automation workaround???
Sorry for the "to the point question" but is there any known way to delete buss automation? EX I am doing a radio edit for a song right now that need 8 bars here and there cut out, the intro cut etc. I have a lot of buss automation, and when i go to delete hole option in the "edit delete window", the option is there, but it stays where it is in the time line. Al the other track automation shifts with the tracks. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance to all who consistently go out of their way to help!! There's a lot of good Samaritans out there.

I'm sorry, but I can't follow your post. You want to delete bus automation, but then you talk about how "al the other track automation shifts with the tracks"--I have no idea what that means, or how it relates to your deleting question.-- RB

He wants to delete parts of all tracks with the delete hole option enabled, and have that portion of the bus automation deleted as well, while automation after the deleted section is pulled back to fill the hole, keeping it in sync with the track audio and automation. It's a long-standing bug that this doesn't work properly. I've experimented with a number of potential workarounds, but nothing works reliably.

Ah, yes, you're right Brundlefly, I get what revsnd wants now. That problem has to be one of the most long-standing problems/bugs/bad programming in Cakewalk. It's easy to say, "So, don't do any bus automation until you're positive about the structure of your project--no more deletions needed,"--but then there's reality. That's a bad problem. RB

It's easy to say, "So, don't do any bus automation until you're positive about the structure of your project--no more deletions needed,"--but then there's reality. That's a bad problem. RB Actually - due to the bad implementation of Bus Automation which, as you and Dave point out, has been seriously buggy for MANY versions, I stopped using Bus Automation like I used to. Now I only use it when I'm reasonably sure the arrangement is complete and things won't be moving around too much. But not being able to delete the automation hole is only one bug related to bus automation. There are some other bad ones there too - which still exist even in X1. So I use bus automation cautiously (but wish I didn't have to be cautious with it).

I wonder if someone at Cake could comment on this. Often I will finish up a CD and get the single's off to the clients, and they are happy. Then, a couple of months go by and they want to cut a section out of a song for some reason or another, and I have to jump through hoops and try to explain to them that its not as easy as it seems. EVEN though, it should only take a few minutes to just delete the hole. ARRRGGGHHH!!

Yeah, it's a pain this. I don';t know the internal workings, but it seems to me that Sonar relates automation to lips in some fuzzy way that doesn't quite make sense to me. Whereas automation is all about the timeline, really. I suppose this is of a piece with the lack of any kind of "ripple" editing. As in, there's a whole set of features around this kind of "all tracks" editing, as opposed to "clip editing across multiple tracks", which is what Sonar seems to do.

Sometimes I get the feeling that the areas (and bugs) Cake seems to ignore or avoid are areas that might be really entrenched and could open up a big can of new bug worms, so they do avoid it. I don't know if that's true or not -- but automation issues have been brought up many many many times on this forum over the years. And while they have improved upon it in the track view with edit filters and such -- there are still areas that just cause a lot of headaches (like bus automation) and really do need some overhauling.
