Butterfly *new version updated 10/3*
This song presents a new feature - my wife has been writing the lyrics, and is singing lead as well! Her lyrics is inspired of a newspaper article about the belgian terrorist hiding from justice. EDIT: I did a second version playing violin on the solo as well as some fills and background stuff. I also changed EQ settings on all strings and bass, removed a huge reverb on the background vox that I missed, added some stuff to the bridge and some minor tweaking. Feel free to criticize mix and arrangement, even if I probably wont be doing a third version. https://soundcloud.com/lasse-williamsson/butterfly-v2 EDIT 2: Deleted the old version, since the new one appeared to be better both for you and me.

really nice Lasse - tell your wife she did a great job. Production and mix is excellent. The intro and outro is really nice but does seem a little detached from the song - maybe replace the guitar solo with violin (or add violin to what you have) to tie it all together?

This hit me just right this afternoon, what a cool song. Loved the intro, just beautiful. I thought it lead into the song well, the melody sets up the first verse. Your wife has a lovely voice, reminded me of Annie Haslam from Renaissance. Excellent production too, mix sounds great through headphones and I love that bass, it really moves!

I agree with James if you could perhaps add some violin into the body that would integrate the intro/outro some more, other than that the mix come across well here and the vocal is very nicely sung, thanks for sharing.

Thanks Daryl, from me and my wife! Glad to hear you liked it. Good point about getting the violin to play the solo, as well as tie it together. It sounded fine when I played all on the piano, but after the orchestration it felt more separated. Actually I removed a lot of distorted guitars from the bridge after my wife said it didn't fit in, but saved the guitar solo because I proudly thought it for once sounded guitar-ish... I will think about the tie idea and see if I can manage a violin update of the song later in the week.

Ditto on the above... sounds good! Loved the intro/outro. The main body of the song sounded good as well, though I also think violin would be a nice addition ('cause it sounds so good!). I agree with James about your wife's voice - definitely Annie Haslam-ish. Harmonies are nice too.

Thanks James, I'm really glad you liked the bass! It was minor EQ-ing this time - I added some sub and around 2000, and reduced the low mid. My wife say thanks for the compliment! Wookiee I agree with James if you could perhaps add some violin into the body that would integrate the intro/outro some more, other than that the mix come across well here and the vocal is very nicely sung, thanks for sharing.
Thank you Wookie for your comments, much appreciated! I'm working on an update with some more violin integrated/ smoother transitions.

I'm glad you liked it, Steve! Well, I will try to get more of the violin in to the song. Like my wife said: "You should really do an all-acoustic song next!" But... then it would be a waste of song - I love the synthy plinky-plonky sounds!

FWIW... yes, I think this is a more cohesive version. The violin solo better ties the "bookends" together, and the other changes did seem to improve the mix. Good second version!

Lovely song and nice open mix. Vocals are sweet. I liked the violin playing, although it could use some EQ'ing with some 1k to 2k cuts, as it sounds pretty thin when playing on the E string.

Very cool song! I can't even really think of any criticism. it sounds complete and finished and great. By the way on a side note, I was thinking about having my girlfriend write me some lyrics to add to some of my instrumental stuff... I can't write lyrics unless they're funny haha, so I'm thinking having her help me out could be a cool way to add some vocals too :-)

Big LOL! Thats exactly my situation too. I just cant write a serious lyric without some kind of twist. It can be hard for your girlfriend to write lyrics to a existing melody. We did it the opposite way: She did some lyrics, I made little changes of it so it would be more fitting in a song, and added the music. Thanks for listening David.
