Buzzing/crackling white noise sound after inserting VST plugins

Hadn't had this before but encountered it twice in the last session using Lexington: Buzzing/crackling white noise sound after inserting VST plugins. Forced me to quickly mute all hardware, kill Sonar and restart Sonar. After restart & project reload inserting the same plug worked fine. Happend once with FF MB and once with NI varicomp ... very odd ...

    were you playing-back at the time or was the transport stopped?

    to be honest - i can't remember ... playback may have been running as i'm used to shuffling plugs around and sometimes adding them on the fly ...
