Bypassing envelopes.
Ideally I would like to see a 'disable envelope' option in the envelope menu when right clicking. Just wondering if I am missing anything when it comes to the possibility of disabling them (ignoring re-assigning, re-routing workarounds)before I put in a feature request.

Not in the right click menu but you can always disable automation read (the R icon) in the track header.

to disable or re-enable my envelopes....it is a simple matter of dragging the envelope up or down. In any given envelope I normally have a number of nodes which allows me to easily do this. I will normally enter 4 nodes in 2 pairs since this allows me to drag that center section leaving the surrounding turf unchanged. But I "get" exactly what you are saying.....and agree... bypassing the envelopes at times could be a very handy feature..... my method is a workaround.

As FBB pointed out use the read automation button to enable or disable automation. No work around needed.

Now days, I find it rare that I would need to bypass or shut off envelopes in a track. If I get to that point it's because I have done too much to it and the simple solution is to delete the envelope and start again.

I use this a lot when I am "auditioning" parts from multiple takes to see which ones sound better. As per the picture below. notice the multiple nodes in the same general places in the piano tracks. It's easy to jump back and forth between tracks trying one part or the next..... Just the way I roll.

It seems to me Guitarhacker you have a non standard way of doing this. If it works for you fine but I don't think the OP is asking for this way of working with automation. None the less I'm sure the OP can use your method when the need arises.

you are probably correct.... about the non-standard way I work. It's little things I have developed over the time I have been doing this that seem to me (at least) as the best, and most expedient way to accomplish what I seek to do ..... I do reveal these ways I work because perhaps, someone else may find them useful. I don't expect everyone to embrace them as standard ways to work. Truth be told.... I probably do not use 90% of the things and features in X1 to do what I do. But that's cool with me.... I often read the posts here by others asking questions and I have learned things that I will likely never use myself.

I haven't ever needed to bypass an envelope myself but I've had to redo the automation because everything is too hot. In cubase there is an automation mode where you can lower or raise all the nodes in a track with one click of the mouse. What would I do in X1?

trim can lower or raise the entire track level.....independent of the envelopes and in Music creator I have clicked on an envelope in a track to adjust a portion of it, and whatever I did actually selected and moved the entire envelope with every node from start to finish...as a whole. I have not seen this happen in X1... not saying it isn't there, it's just that I have not had it happen to this point. I had to click out of the track and then back to that specific section of the envelope I was seeking to adjust to get just that one portion. (in MC)

I think the answer FastBikerBoy gave was the one I was looking for in regards to me overlooking something; however disabling automation doesn't address bypassing individual envelopes on a track. Its an all or nothing solution (similar to just being able to disable the effects bin, and not individual fx. I have been doing a lot of sound design and music for film, and being able to bypass individual envelopes on busses, while leaving them intact and in place, would be very useful when mixing.

The only real workaround I can think is that you can right click an envelope and assign it something you're either not using or won't affect the sound in any way - I've just had a look at the available assignation options, and there are several available for the Pro Channel modules, depending on which modules you've got inserted. Just use one of these.

perfectprint Its an all or nothing solution (similar to just being able to disable the effects bin, and not individual fx. In the FX bin.... simply click the white icon/dot...whatever it is...right in front of the name of the FX... it acts just like an on/off button. That way you can shut off the things in the bin one at a time. Very handy. no need to hit bypass on the whole bin. That one's already there and working.

bristolj- i have ended up doing that before, but was looking to avoid reassigning, or adding unnecessary buses.

guitar hacker - i was pointing out that we can turn on and off individual effects, (and sends for that matter) but not individual envelopes.
