C++ Runtime Error in Sonar 8.5.3 after installing X1

Today I got a lot of crashes due to a runtime error in Sonar Producer 8.5.3. two days ago I installed X1 pro.

Since i'm not familliar with the new X1 interface I thought It would be smart to use the old version because i had to record a lot of audio parts today, but it turned out to be one painstaking recording session. Sonar crashed almost everytime shortly after recording a take.

Has anybody had these same issue's or does anyone know If it could be related to the newly installed runtime engine for x1?

There was a post yesterday or the day before which talked about needing to replace a microsoft runtime c++ file thingy.  You might look for it.  Search C++ and see what turns up.  Basically the OP said that X1 installs an outdated and outmoded C++ redistributable file that can be replaced with a newer more stable one from microsoft.  I should've bookmarked it.

    thanx for your reply.

I did a search on the subject before I posted my question.  Think I missed that topic.

In the meantime I (re-)installed the 2010 redistributable package and it seems to work for now.

I have another recording session tomorrow, so we'll see if it works. I'll keep you posted.

this is the link to the Visual C runtime package:

    I'm having the same issue.

Can anyone point me in the direction of the most current version of the Runtime Library for 32-bit Windows?

bladetragic>  I used the 2010 redistribitable (See above post for link) and it seems to work. (for now)

The 32 bit version of the package as described in the threat that brundefly posted is on the same page as the 64-bit version:

ok. I still had some crashes today. A lot less than yesterday.

I will try and install the 2005 package and see what happens.

Installed the 2005 package and seems like the crashes are gone. Unbelievable I didn't thought of this earlier. I learned to live with those crashes for the past 2 years. I really hope this finally solved my problems ;-)

I have been keeping an eye on your posts...I installed X1 and the same thing has happened. Last couple days have been a nightmare sending clients home because of continuous crashes on my program. You recently installed the 2005 package.......is it still working? Or, are you getting crashes?

    Hi Tony,

I Installed the package 2 days ago. Look like it's still working. Though I must admit I haven't recorded anything yet (like described in my earlier post). But  I did work on some large project filled with lots of vst's and it seems that it runs way smoother now.

Just try and install the 2005 pack on this link

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=766a6af7-ec73-40ff-b072-9112bab119c2

hope it works for you! it's one thing when it crashes when your alone at work, but if it continuously crashes when someone else is there it's really... really frustrating :-/

Hey Liinerd..I installed the package yesterday......worked fine for session this morning - but crashed during some "heavy" editing today........did you contact tech support? They told the usual.....adjust buffer etc, drivers, etc. I already did that.

Well, glad to hear your up and going smooth. I will keep trying. Thanks for the link.

It seems like it running stable now.

No i didn't check with tech support. Usually there's enough info on this forum for me.

Did you also installed the 2010 package? don't know for shure if this contributed to my stability performance.

What exact error messages do you get when sonar crashes??

I'm having the same problem also since installing X1. I get the generic C++ Runtime Error just saying "abnormal program termination." No error code or anything. This happens for any reason: muting a track, playing a track, moving a track, turning off a synth, whatever. Happens chronically and it looks like the problem is affecting my old Sonar (version 8) now too.

I've tried uninstalling about 4 times, I've tried uninstalling all VC++ Redistributables 2005 and 2010, and all versions mentioned in pretty much every thread. This is awful.

Hey Anton are you seriously using X1? Are you crazy? You have the privilege of having paying clients and you're using experimental software that even Cakewalk admits was not fully baked as they already had an update in the pipeline at release time. I don't mean to offend by my comment its just i find it hard to believe that someone would be taking such risks with their business

I would go back to using 8.5.3. I have 8.5.3 and X1 running on the same machine without effecting the stability of 8.5.3

You don't uninstall the redistributable C++ files you just install the update leaving the older files installed. Give that a try.

Mudgel> I was under the impression that Anton was using 8.5, since he stated that he had the same problems as me.  As you can read in my previous posts I also installed X1 and used 8.5 to work with (for the important stuff), but somehow 8.5 started crashing because of runtime errors.

In the meantime it seems that my problems are solved. Even X1 works great, exept for some occasional strange buggy behaviour ;-)

    grtz!

I am so sorry to hear of your problem. Keeping reading the Forum I logged in to respond.

One thing is to be dissatisfied with X1 or have lack of time to learn it with a confidence 8.5 edition is available for speed work, and another is to have X1 installation abusing 8.5 smooth running, causing, like Anton says, sending clients home. While I do music for fun as hobby and love message release to the world, I believe there is no excuse for Cakewalk to make this possible and not testing it thoroughly enough, so, loyal cakewalk-ers could be on a safe side (*).

I am sure there is no second priority questions, everything should be excellent, and testing based. I am sceptical that guy who used X1 for making Call of Duty soundtrack actually used it, perhaphs resaved the project in X1, there are too many bugs reported here to garantee trusted work and jump start is possible with X1.

I did not upgrade yet. First, I got Sonar 8.5 just in October 2010. Second, I know that the only thing Sonar 8.5 Producer would benefit me is a surround mixing. But I managed/tested to do surround mixing with Home Studio 7XL (and could similarly do it with Music Creator 5). While I more and more switching to 8.5 Producer, I know I am above the sky with my creative possibilities using existing Cakewalk products, I am so happy with. I do not need to change the rocket be it X1 or Ex2)))

(*) another solution is trust yourself and install new software on a separate computer)))

    Why I love Sonar?

No longer impressed by Alan Parsons/Led Zeppelin tone. With tools from Cakewalk I can make more impressive sound. Should I compete? No.

Same issue here...Runtime error is affecting sonar  8.5.3..and killing studio time...is this addressed at all in X1A? ...if not I'm going to have to go back to sonar 7 to get some crucial work done.  This is a ridiculous problem and needs to be addressed imediatly! I've tried the redistributable runtime C++  2005...2008...2010..an the problem is still consistent. You dudes up there at Cakewalk need to fix this mess...seriously!!!!

    I've installed X1A and.....

Yesterday I was editting vocals and I got the Runtime Error again. although this time it seems a little different.  I only get the error message window "C++ RUNTIME ERROR" with no other info. and the only option is to click ok and let sonar exit.

I don't know if it could be a memory related problem. I'm using quite a lot of memory and i'm really stretching the limits of my 32bit system.

I think i'm going to migrate to Windows 7 to solve my memory problem and hopefully it will improve the stability of my system.

    Hey Liinnerd,

Is this the problem you have?

    http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2170684

I was having X1A crash on me which then caused 8.5.3 to start crashing as well.  I ended up having to reboot and just run 8.5.3 without running X1a.  This seems to have resolved my 8.5.3 crashing issue.

The way I discovered this was when you get the crash, another dialog box shows up with more details and, in my case, pointed to the cjlibrary.dll file.

    Hope this helps

I'm back at 8.5.3 until they fix x1a

I'm not shure. My dialog box doesn't say anything else then just 'runtime error'.

I was looking for a program to monitor the processes but forgot the name. any suggestions?

Anyway: Today I started a new project in X1A and it worked without crashing. So maybe it's a bad or conflicting plug that I use or maybe It is a memory problem after all.

I have another recording session tomorrow. I will use 8.5 for that so I hope it works.

Today I bought Windows 7 64bit, so I will be installing that also in the comming days. I need to be able to adress more memory anyway since I use a lot of Orchestra Libraries.

    I'll keep u posted!

second: I don't think that this is the right thread for your question. but I'll try to help anyway.

Are you running a 64 bit version of Sonar? If i'm right Studioverb doesn't work on a 64bit system?

8.5.3 started crashing on me again, with the same CJLibrary error. This time i uninstalled X1a, and 8.5.3.  Then reinstalled 8.5.3.  Now 8.5.3 is crashing with various errors, NTDLL.DLL, Sonarprd.exe....arrrrggghhh

just uninstalled 8.5.3 AND 8.5 and reinstalling 8.5 only.

    let's see if this works....

I've never had a new installation of X1 mess up previous versions before, so this is pretty serious.....

I gave up and installed Windows 7.  It took me some time to get everything up and runing but it was worth it.  Opening old projects is still difficult, but if they're opened the run very smooth (all day without crashing)

I've noticed (in windows 7, with 6GB memory) that a lot of my projects eat up more than 4 gigs. Maybe that's why they crashed in XP-32bit ?? I'll guess we'll never know ;-)

I think it's time to close this threat. Thnx for all your help!

    grtz,
    Richard

Maybe not.  I had my first go at X1b last night and it was a nightmare, constant C++ Runtime errors.  8.5.3 had been very stable for me but haven't checked yet to see if that has been affected.  Also moved to a new audio interface in the interim (M-Audio FastTrack Ultra Pro) so need to check that old drivers for my Toneport UX2 are completely uninstalled and not causing problems.

I'm at the beginning of the troubleshooting process but thought I'd post here in the mean time in case anyone else is dealing with something similar or has some good ideas.

After making sure my system is clear of old drivers I may try the runtime library linked further up in the thread.  We'll see how it goes.  Not going to blame X1b until I've done some legwork though.
