CA-2A T-Type Leveling Amplifier Compressor
Hello, I purchased Sonar Platinum in August 2017. I never did acquire the "CA-2A" compressor plugin before the shutdown and then the acquisition by BandLab. I have heard a lot about this plug through these forums and I would love to have it. I "think" I know the answer to my question but I wanted to make sure. It doesn't appear through my google searching that there is anywhere that I can purchase this plug? Is this correct? If this is the case, do you think that BandLab will offer this plug-in in the future? Thanks in advance for any help on this.

If you have patience, I highly expect this to be a separate purchase from CbB.
ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero (Wi-Fi AC), i7-8700k, 16GB RAM, GTX-1070Ti, Win 10 Pro, Saffire PRO 24 DSP, A-300 PRO, plus numerous gadgets and gizmos that make or manipulate sound in some way.

I agree with mettelus.
I doubly agree with Sidroe. It is a fantastic plug in. I also use it on every vocal channel. I also use it on almost every DI bass channel, too.

Does that mean CA-2A isn't part of the Bandlab Cakewalk free offering? I'm still on the last old Cakewalk version and CA-2A is my goto pro channel comp. Wasn't old Cake giving it away for free? At least for a little while?

Thanks for the responses. I will certainly will be patient and wait on BandLab and looking forward to the future. I was worried after purchasing Sonar that 6 months later, Cakewalk went under. Then noticing on top of that, I had missed the opportunity at not only purchasing CA-2A but I missed a "free" opportunity of getting it as well. But thanks again to everyone!

xiwix: My research indicated that yes, upon first release in SPLAT that it was free for a while. Afterwards it could be purchased. If you already have SONAR installed on your computer, all your plugins will move over to BandLab automatically is my understanding as well. So if you have CA-2A, it should migrate with all your other plugins. I have not installed BandLab yet. But will eventually.

This is incorrect. It was first released as a paid-for add on, called PC2A. It was later updated to CA2A, which is essentially the same thing, but with the addition of side-chaining. There have been various offers and deals on it over the years, but it wasn't part of the standard bundle.

It's a shame there's currently no way to buy it, it's really good, as others have noted.

Correct, it has never been bundled with Platinum, but it was offered for free as a standalone download for a while. Then for sale later.

Sorry about the misinformation. I was late to the ballgame on getting that plug (as well as Sonar) and went looking for it recently. I found this site: . Some kind of promotional thing though that long since expired. I assumed it was to kick off the plug but I was wrong. I'm working on vocals now and need all the help I can get. Sure wish I could purchase it.

You can pick up Wave's LA 2 for 30 bucks if you can keep an eye on specials. That's what I payed and no offense to Cake but Wave's version is better, if a little harder to master.

BenMMusTech, I've heard people who have both waves' & cake's say they like both, but for different purposes/instruments.

The main difference between the two is the thickness the Wave's version adds. You can't get that chunky sound with the cake version, however, this is a double edged sword because it can be hard to control the Wave's one. Basically, and this is an opinion without hearing a 'real one but Wave's probably represents the more realistic tone of the original because Wave's possibly has better software engineers and they had access to an actual unit. Someone correct me if I'm wrong? I think this is a huge problem with some or even most emulation software and can be seen in the companies that have been really sucsessful UAD and Wave's and the rest. But correct me if I'm wrong. I was just about to pull the trigger on the Waves version but first I wanted to verify that I cannot indeed get the Cakewalk CA-2A. So thanks again for all of the help. If I do get the Waves, it doesn't mean that I won't get the Cakewalk version if Bandlab offers it one day. Appreciate the links to reviews and differences as well. I think I'm old school in my home recording. I actually like the "sound" of compressors working on vocals as opposed to those who like to "not hear the compressor working". So your advice and reviews have helped me a lot.

This company has a freeware leveling amplifier that had been my favorite of the type before CbB came out and I discovered that CA-2A had a module that appeared in the ProChannel: https://audiotools.se/ They just call it their "Leveling Tool," and it's at least worth a try. It might work for you until BandLab start shipping the CA-2A. It looks great.

I'm interested to see what BandLab do with the "premium" tools like CA2A once they have completed this phase of their plan which seems centred on establishing the free Cakewalk's market position. Definitely makes sense make the distinction given that those of us who already own the content can use it with CbB so we have not lost anything and it leaves them something extra to offer new users in the future. I do hope though that they start to give some updates on their plans in this area even if the timescales are still a bit vague.

I think that there will be a good case for re-releasing the premium tools like CA-2A, Z3TA+2, and Rapture Pro. But the BandLab priorities are on the DAW for now. I think they plan to under promise and over deliver, so probably no official speculation on timelines is forthcoming.

It depends on whether the premium add-on was developed in-house or was licensed from a third party. In the latter case (including some features that aren't plugins), deals have to be renegotiated with outside companies. CA-2A's file header says copyright Cakewalk, which leads me to believe it was developed in-house and there should be no barrier to selling it again. It's probably just a matter of setting priorities for the smaller development staff. It would be nuts for BandLab to own intellectual property and not try to earn revenue from it, so I expect most things will be available for purchase in time. Other plugins that contain the same copyright information include Boost11, Dimension Pro, Rapture, DropZone, RXP, Session Drummer, Studio Instruments, TS-64 Transient Shaper, TL-64 Tube Leveler, VX-64 Vocal Strip, LP EQ, LP MB, Drum Replacer and PX-64 Percussion Strip. (These are just taken from my own current inventory; not sure which ones are already bundled with CbB.) I would expect all or most of these to be made available for separate purchase.
All else is in doubt, so this is the truth I cling to. My Stuff

All for the under promise and over deliver approach just after a few snippets to encourage idle (hopeful) speculation.

Yes, all the plug-ins need updates (at a minimum UI and documentation changes for the new company) and installers written. Then there is the issue of account migration. I cannot imagine a roll out of Cakewalk add-ons before this task is complete.
