CANT EXPORT TO MP3 ?!?!?

ok, well, i started finishing up some of my tracks and decided it was time that i made a demo.......well, according to Cakewalk Music Creator, it doesnt want me to. I was exporting it step-by-step out of the owner's manual, and error box (dialogue box, etc.) appeared, reading "The mp3 encoder must be unlocked before use. Please visit http://www.cakewalk.com to upgrade a previous encoder, or to purchase a new encoder." Well, i dont remember ever having an encoder, because i bought it, registered it, and didnt use it for a while because i didnt have a mixer until recently. So i dont see how i can upgrade one, unless theres one i didnt know about....Someone please tell me how to upgrade or whatever.....because i dont think i should have a to purchase an encoder just to use what i've already bought. Please help ASAP

The MP3 encoder that came with MC3 was good for 30 days only after installation. You did not pay for it as part of MC3; it was "shareware". If you want to purchase THAT encoder, then you have to go to cakewalk and give them another $30 (I believe) to unlock it.

OTOH, if you would prefer to use something free, then there are several programs that will do the job.
    I use cwenc

DISCLAIMER: it does NOT work from INSIDE MC! It is a STAND ALONE program

If that doesn't work, Cakewalk Pyro is pretty cheap and will convert Wav.s to MP3. I got an older version for 10 bucks.

I strongly suggest exporting as a wave file and the use a separate program like DBPowerAmp to convert to MP3

Wave audio is audio is what is on a standard CD, MP3's are a compressed format better suited for storage or transport, but not of the same quality as ful audio

ok, well, i posted another question but not getting any replies in the last 10 minutes lol. but im gettin frustrated and hoping that one of yall are still watching this thread....well this is what it reads

"ok, i was using staff mode to put in piano because i only have a piano .,...not a keyyboard thatll hook up.. and i pretty much got it down...but i couldnt find how to do a tie..... if you dont know what im talking about...its when theres a note...then 2 sideways parentheses then the same note again..... and when its played it just holds the note out longer....but if i cant do the tie...it messes up the timing and everything is just screwed....so someone PLEASE tell me how to do ties in staff mode THANKS"

well, thanks............(gee i wish i had more than one star)

The staff writing features in MC are limited, to do really first rate staff writing you would be better off using a true notation program, but to get timing issues right just enter the right value notes and drag them left or right until they work like you wish, the rests must be right and the location of the note in relation to all that matters a lot.

to do a 'tie' in MC Staff view, you simply extend the length of the note for the duration of the tied notes. staff view will create the tie when the length of the initial note is long enough for the measure to warrant a tie.

Robo's right about the staff view being very limited for MC, however. a lot of things aren't available in staff view.

how do you extend the length of a note...at first i thought you were talking about dragging...but that just moves the note...im still a little confused because i need ties. i cant just resituate stuff and trie to make it sound right as robo was telling me..........

if you're in the STAFF VIEW, you right click on the note and enter a number for the duration that corresponds to the timing of the note. for example, if you're trying to tie two quarter notes, you would enter an amount equal to a half note (typically that's going to be 2:000, but you might want to vary that some since no one ever plays EXACTLY that length for a note).

If you're in the PIANO ROLL VIEW, you can grab the END of the note and drag it, dragging from the MIDDLE of the note will MOVE it.
