CA-X Amps -- FX Chains have the FX Secreted away

Ok, there's so much content it's hard to know what's what, but the CA-X Amps Producer -- are those Craigs?

Anyway, it sure would be nice to be able to teak the underlying FX. I understand hiding them so that everyone can't just duplicate them. I guess maybe people would (or other companies). But it's one of the things I've really enjoyed about the FX chains in the past... being able to get in there and see how it was all wired up.

Now, idk what does what except by ear and label And I can't wire up my GR-20 to automate the wah and stuff.

They're cool, but they are cooler without the constraint.

I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

  • Support for the new QuickFX format as found in the Anderton CA-X amps collection (Craig, you’re welcome LOL)
Is this the reason I can't modify the FX under the FX Chain?

I can't give up all this control. I just have to know what 'Plosive Cut' is actually doing. EQ? Compression? Other magical madness? It's making me crazy!

Sorry, Craig, I know it makes some sense from an IP perspective. I just want to absorb all your I into my i.

There are two main reasons why the underlying structure isn't exposed. I was wondering how long it would take for people to notice...guess most folks don't tweak

First, they use IP that belongs to Gibson and which I acquired while doing sound design for the Firebird X. So the good news is we have access to it because it's Gibson's. The bad news is I would be violating the NDA I signed while working on the Firebird X if I exposed the IP. Violating an NDA is a non-starter for me. However, most of the Anderton Collection effects do use a conventional FX chain and do expose the parameters, because there's nothing proprietary about them.

Second, those amps are like a house of cards. You make one little change, and they turn into "suck" very fast. For example one amp has 24 stages of EQ. If you bypass just one of those stages, it falls apart. They do a lot of things "wrong" and if you try to apply conventional programming tweaks, your head will explode. I spent a year (off and on) working on those amps, and I don't think you can do much more optimizing.

There are two other reasons that are more conceptual. I really wanted these to be plug-and-play where people could just drag them into a project and have them work. Also, removing the strip along the bottom of the traditional FX chain (the amp ones are slightly different) makes it look a lot nicer.

"24 stages of EQ"? I am trying to understand the why/how of this... Perhaps is the misperception of "stage" as it sounds like 24 separate EQ inserts?

Thanks for the explanation, Craig.

The very first thing I did after dropping in one of your plugs was go to tune my guitar using TH2.

Also, I own TH2 full, so I like to switch things up to use that version and then tweak away.

I'm sure I'll still use your amps and stuff. I really appreciated the EQ settings for the piezos. All kinds of good stuff.

I have definitely used your FX Chains as lessons in the past. I'm bummed not to get those lessons. So, here's my request... when you can, can you leave the FX visible? It's hand to be able to use TH2 to tune or check input levels or automate with my pedals...

Having it all locked up may be a requirement in some cases, but where not, I'd love the lesson.

Actually multiple groups of EQ inserts. But yes, there are 24 unique stages of EQ scattered around within the chain. Not all amps use that many, though. That was a particularly tough one to get sounding "right."

Sure, that's why most are unlocked.
