CCC Download Files Question

I recently rolled back to JP from Kingston.  I used the CCC but it re-downloaded the files from Cake instead of using the saved files on my computer. I thought that was the reason for saving the update files to your HD.  Rolling back is supposed to be fast and easy but obviously, in this case, it's not.  Do I have a setting wrong?

Any help or clarification would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Re: CCC Download Files Question 2015/12/08 16:22:07 (permalink)
Did you use CCC to upgrade to JP in the first place ?
When I built my new PC, I tried to just copy the install file (Sonar-H update) from the old PC to the new PC's CCC download folder.  It downloaded the Sonar-H file from Cakewalk anyway.
So it seems like in order to rollback, you must have used CCC to install the rollback target in the first place.
Why can't CCC just take inventory of what is in the CCC download folder and use that?
Could someone from Cake comment on this ?

Could Cake tell us what the rules are for CCC using existing files in the download folder ?
I like CCC but I would like to know exactly what it is going to do since it can take several hours on my connection to download something like DimPro.

Thanks Colin.  I'm pretty sure it is but I will double check.

    Thanks, Jonesey...
I had to determine where to put the file so I am 100% sure the folder location was not the issue.
For the situation I described, the path was the default CCC download path. When CCC downloaded the Sonar-H update, it overwrote what was already there.

I have since moved the CCC folder to the HDD.
I see there is a Kingston update 1 and I could try to duplicate this but if I manually download (40 mins) and it does not work, then another 40 mins for CCC to re-download. At least it is smaller than DimPro or Rapture.
I will wait a bit to see if someone from Cake chimes in.

I feel your pain Michael.  My connection here has slowed way down, (at least with the Cake site), so it does take 30 to 40 minutes to download the files.  When I updated to Kingston, in my trying to select the best option, it ended up downloading the whole thing twice!  Oh well.

FYI the Kingston 1 update is just the core .exe - nothing else comes down with it.

On my system it's 429,849 Kb which is a few Kb smaller than the original.

I really can't trust CCC to do what I want it to do (installing Rapture Session this morning confirmed my unease) so I've been downloading everything manually.  I also found out that CCC won't see an installer if it's already sitting right there in front of it.  It just starts a new download.

Luckily, CCC is notified that something has been installed outside its control, so products show green lights.

Sorry to hear that Paul.  I too, have never gotten the CCC to do exactly what I think it should.  And of course, I only uses it once a month, (or less), so I don't remember what I did last time.  I need to take more notes.....

    - downloaded the Kingston update 1 to a temp folder.
    - copied the installer to the CCC download folder.
    - started CCC and it told me there was an update available.
    - clicked update and CCC used the local file i had copied to the CCC folder.
It did not download the update.
I don't know if Cake fixed CCC or this worked because I already had SPlat installed.
At least I can confirm that updates can be manually downloaded and installed via CCC.

I don't understand. If I download a file manually and place it in the Downloads folder as defined in CCC options then if I ask CCC to install that file, it will use the file in the download folder and not download it again. Perhaps you need to sign out and back in again to correct information in CCCs cache.

Yes and I confirmed what you just posted.
Earlier in the thread, we were questioning if indeed it would the local file.

This may be the case.  CCC failed to see the Rapture Session installer in its dowload folder the last time I tried, but I don't remember if I had CCC running or not while I moved the installer into that folder.  I somehow doubt it since I usually close CCC each time I'm done with it.  That said, I just tried with both R Session (which I had installed then uninstalled) and Rapture (both of which I had manually downloaded from my account) and in both cases CCC did not download again before running the  installer.

I checked last night and it appears that the download path had been changed back to the default, (C: drive) vs where I had it set, (F: drive).  I don't know how this happened but it might explain this particular issue.  I changed it back and will watch on future updates.
