CD Data

Hi - I am re-posting this to see if someone might reach out:

Wondering what step am I missing when burning a CD - so the titles / text shows up on a player as with a commercial one. Now when I put oneI've burned in a computer for example, it will will display "Unknown artist" and the number of tracks...but no titles. I know this must be easier than I know!

Thanks - CS

    Charles,
If I'm not mistaken (and I could be on this), that particular capability has something to do with Sony. I seem to have read somewhere that unless yo have a Sony drive, and use their software, you can't name your tracks and have them show up like you would a commercial CD.
I am more than happy to be corrected on this.

Thanks ! Lets wait for a few more responses and see if we both learn more. It seems like a simple thing that ought not be the "domain" of Sony....we'll see (my drive is not Sony obviously!)

I don't have an answer but I'm curious about this.

I was under the impression that it depended on two factors. 1. The ability of the burning software to add text. 2. The CD player being able to read it.

Charles - out of interest, what burning software are you using? Are you using Cue Sheets?

I can't believe Sony have a monopoly on this. Then again.......

That's interesting. I always thought I was to do with the software itself. I use Nero to burn, and the track names do show up, but then again I have a Sony AW DVD drive..?

I finally got a chance to Google this.
Sony developed "CD Text" as a Red Book extension. If you have a newer Sony drive, and Nero 5.5 or later, you should have the capability.
Other manufacturers can license it from Sony, and many have done so.
Your CD R/W drive must support it, and the software must support it.
Look for an "Enable CD Text" option in your burner software.
If you see that, you are good to go.
