CHOPPED AND SCREWED

Okay, I'm sure this question has been asked before.  But I can't seem to find the question on the forum related to Sonar X1.  How do we get that screwed effect on vocals in Sonar X1?  Is there a plugin or some technique using the basic X1 software?

    Ah - thank you ModBod - As the Wiki entry says, "...screwed and chopped...refers to...a technique of re-mixing hip hop music..."  That explains why I wasn't hip to the term.  "Screwed"--my mind went other places.

    I would like to know this but this forum is pretty limited with such techniques.
    Guys who seem to get into that kind of stuff and are using PCs to produce it are usually using Ableton.

    Although there are VSTs which may give you results along the lines of chop and screwed.

    For example Izotope Stutter Edit may be something you will like.
    With some tweaking it may be able to give you the effect you want.

    Otherwise it comes with some really crazy presets.
    Another thing is it does chew through the CPU when using it live so if you do not have a some what decent processor it will give yo the pops and crackles.

    You can screw down your vocals and chop them in X1. Chop up your audio files and pitch shift them, it's an easy technique to achieve. Read the manual about splitting and pitch shifting audio. I could give you some ultra long examples, but its best for you to start at the source and figure out what works for your style of production.
