    Suicide apparently. Poor guy, he battled addiction for a long time. One of those celebrity deaths you just never thought would happen.

    R.I.P. I never figured him to be one to go by suicide. He will be missed.

    Wow, bummer...  That one really makes me sad. 
     
    I actually know the person who mentored him on his acting (Toni Attell - I had some classes with her and she just happened to end up being my "lab" partner - a, shall we say, VERY interesting person!).

    I'm gonna watch Popeye tonight. Even in bad movies, he was still entertaining.
     
    He was the same age as me. I don't know why that makes it sadder, but it does.

    I thought last night about T.S Garp.
     
    He was not the character I imagined when I read World According to Garp, but now I could not ever imagine another in that role.

    Whether he was serious or zany, he always seemed to be running circles around everyone else. His mind ran at a different clock speed from most of us. For years, I thought there was a sweet sadness in his characters that the laughter couldn't completely cover. I'm so very sorry to hear about his suicide. Tragic.

    He achieved his own pinnacle place in both acting and comedy. Here Charlie Rose tries to interview him...it's great and remembering how fun he was, is the best option.

    This one really hit me hard. Not since the passing of Hunter Thompson have I felt so bad about the passing of a man I never met. Too young, just too young.

    I've rarely seen such universal grief for a dead celebrity. Most people seem to say just how much this really affects them. The man has touched a lot of people through his work.

    It was amazing to watch him on a talk show and just see how fast his mind worked. He could bounce from one subject to another and nobody else needed to say a word. Just watch him go... What a gift he had.

    The story gets sadder..seeing reports that Williams had major financial problems, and was facing bankruptcy. A couple of ill-judged remarks have been made in the media about the lack of quality in his later work - but it looks like he was taking movies and TV stuff that he really didn't want to do, just to keep afloat.
     
    I must admit, I saw him in a dreadful family 'road movie' last year and wondered what he was wasting his talents for...now I know.

    I guess I assume that a star of his level wouldn't have money issues. I did think he was struggling with depression and the combination would be draining. Too bad that his humor didn't make him feel better.

    I got that from him as well. He was an acute observer of the human condition, and his mind was way too fast.
    Even as silly as Mork and Mindy was, you could see that this guy was processing 17 tangents at the same time.
    When he was cast as Garp, it seemed such a natural choice. Really, who else could pull off this character?
    Sadly, I can see him ending it this way. Humor and despair are close companions.
    He was a rare breed, and he most definitely made a mark during his time here.

    We went dancing last night and a young woman said she attended Interlochen Arts Academy while Robin's kid was there, and she thought that their family must have big troubles/issues, back then. 
     
    Joni Mitchell once said that "personal demons have nothing to do with one's rent bracket".......
     
    Still, he was the King of Comedy for me, with no one even close to him. Hmmm,.... even my statement makes him sound lonely.
