    2 cores and 4 processing threads.
     
    Same way an i7 has 4 cores and 8 processing threads.

    Clock-speed, cores, and generation of CPU are all factors:
     
    If you're comparing an i5 8600k (six cores @ 4300MHz - six processing threads) vs. an i7 4700k (4 cores at 3900MHz - eight processing threads) , the i5 would be slightly faster for most applications.

    The new i7 8700k (Coffee Lake) has six cores (12 processing threads)... and those six cores can all be locked at 4700MHz.
     
    Amazing DAW performance... for well under $400.
