CRASHES
Does anyone else CRASH when shutting down Sonar X1B ? Does anyone else experience the control bar gui disappear when leaving sonar sit a bit ? I though x1 b was supposed to correct this stuff.

Only 2 crashes for me, both with the Waves L2 through jBridge which the developer has admitted has troubles with certain Waves Shells. Can't blame X1b for that. Haven't had the other issues you're talking about and just completed a mix on a 30 track tune with a few soft synths in SONAR 64.

I've had one crash on startup, but not shutdown. Also, when I tried to install my Waves Diamond bundle, it crashes every time it tries to scan VST's. I had to uninstall Waves to get it to stop. Just learned about JBridge, but by the sounds of it, that won't be a solid solution for Waves.

yorolpal New drivers for my Fast Track Ultra and new X1b. Still crashing...but less often. Sigh. 2 options 1- tell me the make and model of the motherboard and video card or you go look for updated chipset/inf drivers and video drivers, there is no reason to crash ever !!

I/O jBridge won't help with that. I have a little wrapper that converts DXIs to VSTs. I was able to do that with my Waves stuff (It's a very old bundle '03 or so). What you could do is convert your Waves DXIs to VSTs and then have SONAR scan that new directory. It's worked for me since version 8.0. Search the older SONAR forum someone should have a download link (I'm away from my home PC so I don't have it.)

My machine is a new monster from Jim Roseberry at StudioCat. It was purpose built for audio and has all optimum components. Unless it's a faulty video card it isn't computer related as everything checks out nicely. I have NEVER had a setup using any computer and Cakewalk that did not crash at least infrequently. 8.5.3 was very stable...but even it would crash on occasion. I don't use any cracked software plugins. I keep only the latest drivers for everything installed and check regularly for new ones. I'm pretty sure my problems now are from my Fast Track Ultra. I'm looking for alternatives. X1B is still sketchy in some areas. Here's an example: today while I was working I needed to adjust some velocity levels in the PRV which I usually do by making the line in the contoller lane longer or shorter. In X1 you are supposed to be able to do this using ALT-Click-drag. I could "decrease" any velocity but not "increase" it using this method then later on while editing the same track it just started working right and I could do both. I was also recording a bass track on the project and suddenly the bass stopped tracking, playing and recording but the project continued to play...then froze with all notes on...then hung...requiring a complete reboot. This sort of stuff happens regularly. And always has. I grow weary.

Thanks everyone. I'm crashing after every session of X1B. I was not crashing after any session on X1A. However, I was crashing from time to time if leaving X1 idle awhile. It's dont think it's my machine. Gotta be a plugin i guess. I will figure it out 1 plug at a time and get back to this thread. Ol Pal, been reading your great posts for a while now. Sounds like your perplexed a bit as well. Good Luck !

Switching is close to divorce for complexity and trauma. I'm working on learning C6. It's very nice and SOS gave me two free ASK training modules. But... C6 doesn't like my Mackie C4 (neither does CW), the Tranzport install is an odd job.

Good morning, I am new to the forum but have come urgently, because I'm a very serious problem with version X1. When he was nearing the end of my mix, saved the project and gave a break to smoke a cigarette to relax. When I returned the project was frozen, nor played, nor returned to the start or anything. I closed the project and to my surprise when I opened gave crash. I've done everything (the project started in safe mode, etc.) and could not even open on my version 8.5.3. Please help me, because this work is my most important client at all times!

@OP: I was also crashing on project or application shutdown. I seem to have fixed it by re-creating my startup template (Normal.cwt). Kind of a pain but it seems to have solved the problem going forward. Good luck Dean

Rlfzblock, my first piece of advice is stop smoking. Specific to Sonar. If these are program crashes and not Windows lock ups, just hit ctrl alt del and go into the task manager to see what is hung. If you see Bitbridge or Auxiliary in the the list of running tasks, then you know its' either a Bitbridge that crashed or JBridge, in either case a plug in issue. If you just see Sonar in the list by itself without the above, that should lead you to a midi controller or internal issue with Sonar. One high likelihood is Dimension Pro if you are running that software in Sonar. I can get that program to crash outside of Sonar so it's stability is highly suspect. When quickly moving through the various sounds of DPro, it does not seem to do well swapping sounds in and out of memory. This is just some general direction. If you eliminate all of the above, you probably have sound driver compatibly issues, graphics driver issues and the worse to find and detect, Motherboard contention issues i.e. network or firewire conflicts.

Thank Middleman, the advice to stop smoking and also for valuable tips. I saw the Bitbridge has several occurrences in the task manager and I thought it might be because of two packages of plugins that I installed recently, but everything was working ok (and Sonalksis Nugen). Except that I've opened the project without these and the problem continued. What else can I still do about it and?

I would make a copy of the project and delete all plugs ins in the copy, brute force method. If it goes away then start adding back in plug ins. Test. You will eventually find the errant plug in. Sometimes it's a combination of Cakewalk and other plugins. If you are using the Sonitus delay, it has a known memory leak with prior versions. I have found other Sonitus plug ins, 32 bit, not playing well with other 32 bit plugs in a 64 bit environment. Another alternative, switch to 32 bit X1. See if the problem occurs there. If you are still getting the issue after reviewing your plug ins, then start focusing on any synths that may be running. Over time I have learned to use just a few go to plug ins that are known to be stable in Sonar. It greatly reduces crashing scenarios.

I get crashes now after installing X1b every time I try to add an instance of Session Drummer 3. I suspect this is because I am doing this on a (saved and renamed) project that originated on 8.5 or earlier version of Sonar - anyone elase having SD3 issues?

If you are crashing make sure that you log a bug and send a dump file to support. Sometimes even if its an externally caused issue we can guard around the problem and prevent the crash in SONAR. But we have no way of knowing any better without a report. We found a couple of esoteric crashes recently based on problem reports that we now know the cause of. Its worth the effort it takes.

I was really really hoping that reading this forum would entice me to try x1B, but after reading MANY posts, it has not. I don't know if the problem is x1b or the problem is that my 8.5.3. works so well. And when something is working so well - why should I mess with it? I could be one of the lucky ones and X1B may work as well for me. But I am also taking a risk with no identifiable benefit for my own personal situation. Many X1C will be the one that gets my purchase. I appreciate everyones opinion on this. Many will differ from mine. And that is ok. I also think Cakewalk is a top notch company and I mean no disparaging to them. I don't think any other company provides better service on their forum.

@deswind I always advise to everyone starting with new software to do the following: Buy a cheap extra hard disk (or if you do not have fully used your present hard disk then use the spare room), adn make a fresh partition. Install the windows version of your choice in dual boot. Remember - you can use Windows for 30 days as fully functional trial and by using slmgr -rearm you can extend this to 120 days - and that is completely legal. After the 120 days you have to re-install Windows to start a "fresh cycle". By installing Windows in duals boot, you do not have the risk of breaking something in your present system. If you can afford it, it is even a better idea to use a separate computer to do the testing. I always have two computers. One for "main" use, and one test computer. In that way I never have to interrupt my services to other people because something got "broken". Now - use this fresh Windows to install X1 (and update it to x1b) and slowly add all the plugins you want to use. If you get weird behaviour after installing something, it is easy to see what is causing this. In the mean time you can go on with your work, because you still have a fully working system. After the test period you can evaluate the results, and make a decision if a switch to the new setup/system is worthwhile. I advise this to do with every piece of software, plug-in or anything that can influence a system you are depending on (that also includes non-musical software, because that can have unwanted "side effects" on your music software). Believe me - that can take out a lot of frustration and risks. To go on-topic. Sorry - I cannot give any advise, because I never had X1 crashing. Not at start-up, not while using, and not on shut down. I DID have X1 "hanging" on shut down, but it turned out it was the flaky Korg drivers for the nano that I was using then. I now use the Behringer BCF2000 and the problem is solved.

Hello guys, finally managed to solve my problem, was just opening my project in version 8.5.3 which was also giving crash, but the clips made me shake, so I selected everything and copied it to a new design of the X1. lol Anyway I'm still discovering other crashes and I think back to my 8.5.3 which is perfect!

I'm also still getting the disappearing control bar with X1b (it's worse now because min/maximizing no longer fixes it) and a new and more frustrating problem: sonar crashes when double clicking midi clips to open them. So X1a (with sonar plus) actually worked better for me. Do i have to completely re-instal x1 to remove the x1b patch?
