[CURED] Beware of "Dimension LE Syndrom"!
If you use Dimension LE, beware. In about 3 yrs it will quit working so freeze your tracks before archiving! I know I've reported this before but it happens in every project I've used it in. There are 3 versions of Dimension LE: 1.2 (DXi), 1.3 (VSTi), and 1.5 (VSTi). This may only apply to the DXi version but I can't verify that. When opening an old project, a new instance of Dim LE has to be inserted to recover its functionallity. The original one can't even be opened. It will still be in the synth rack but grayed out meaning its dead - unuseable. This is frustrating if you don't remember what samples you had loaded. The only recourse is to freeze tracks before archiving, otherwise you could loose the samples completely. This behavior has been so consistant for the past 17 yrs that I cannot believe anyone else hasn't seen it. My advice is to replace all LE instances with Pro, Rapture, or whatever before it happens. I've only been using Pro for a few years so I can't say it won't do the same thing.

The transition from DX to VST was a mess. Legacy projects can be a challenge and it will not get better with time. Having DPro and RPro and leaving XP with Pentium processors a long time ago, my window of experimentation with the LE synths was small.
I would recommend using Rapture Session where possible instead of the legacy "player" programs: Cakewalk Sound Center, Dimension LE and Rapture LE.
Don't expect any relief on the DX to VST transition but it would be nice to have Rapture Session and Rapture Pro implement VST Persist Compatibility to ease the move from legacy VST synths.

This type of issue is exactly why I render VSTi-generated output to audio before putting a project to bed. I've been using DAWs for so long there are all kinds of plug-ins from all kinds of companies that have fallen by the wayside.
Don't delete the instrument tracks in case you can open them in the future, but do use the track note pad option to save notes, and also, save the presets used in your projects in the project folder.

Good advice Craig. I think my issues are happening whenever I migrate to a new computer with fresh installs of everything. Today I desided to research why this keeps happening and it appears that v1.2 (DXi) is the culpret. Using regsvr32 to register it failed which lead me to believe it was improperly installed. So I moved the dll to a temp folder and reinstalled it. Now my once dead tracks are alive and well and Dimension LE stands redeemed.  Sorry for bothering you over a non issue.

For me, Project Preservation is a must. I end up with several saved versions and always make a "final" mix for reference before making new major edits. The mix showcases that version's efforts. At times I may create several versions beyond that mix that end up worse so I go back to the earlier version and start over. That's when all this trouble starts.

That's a good practice to do. Thanks for reminding all of us.
