[CWBRN-45291]Audio engine often plays short millisecond loop if two projects open

During editing, to hear what I have done so far, I put the Now cursor one or two clips back and hit the spacebar to play.

Very often, instead of my audio, I hear a digital whine similar to when you have a digital earth loop or an open cable running near a monitor or some digital equipment. It is not very loud.

So I hit spacebar to stop, the Now cursor jumps back to where it started from, I hit spacebar again, and my audio plays normally!

I carry on editing, everything is fine for a while, I can hear my audio, then suddenly it happens again.

Very strange.

I am assembling a song from split clips I made from live recordings. In this I am using straight tracks, not comping tracks. And everything is just audio at this point. No plugins, nothing.

I have two projects open at the same time. I am dragging clips from the original recording and dropping them in the new project.

Are the two projects running at the same sample rate?

Are the clip's at the same sample rate as the project?

If you mean the sample rates displayed in the blue tempo box at the top, then yes.
I just create new projects and start to record, I don't mess with no sample rate settings.

    They are the same clips.

I opened a project, recorded audio, split into clips, opened another project and am now assembling the song by dragging the best clips from the recording into the empty project.

Why not do it in the same project on separate tracks.  Use the recorded track as a reference to take clips from.  You can copy data from a muted track to a live track then you would only hear the live track.

Just as a matter of interest what Audio Interface and driver model are you using.

Why not do it in the same project on separate tracks.

I was following Craig Anderton's tip of the week on how, in Sonar, you don't really need a scratchpad (this is a new feature in Studio One and now some folks here say they want a scratchpad in Sonar, too.).

I am in fact using *two* projects as sources.
I first copied all tracks from both projects into the one project, but the amount of scrolling and shuffling was too much work.

So Craig's tip is just the ticket.

Cakewalk UA-25EX with the most recent driver for Win7-64. Hasn't changed in years.

In the meantime I can sort of reproduce the problem. It happens the very first time I try play after I have switched from one project and clicked on a track in another project.

It's really just a nuisance, I have conditioned myself to hit the spacebar 3 times.
But perhaps the Bakers could nevertheless have a look, next time they are in that area.

In my case Sonar just crashes when I have two projects open and I try to play one of them. The two projects are basically identical, one of them being an earlier copy of the current project.... (I'm on Lexington 64 bit, and I also tried tip of the week #77 :)

That is serious. Something is wrong there.

I used to master entire albums in X3e by opening all songs at the same time and quickly switching between them whilst tweaking EQ, Ozone, Concrete Limiter etc, until all songs sound the same.

Just tried it again in X3e, just to be sure. I confirmed it does not happen there.

Listening to it again, it sounds like a very short loop of a few milliseconds is playing - this results in more of a buzz than a tone. That is what may be happening.

Anyway, I have submitted a bug report.

Could it be the tail from the other project I have noticed sometimes when I stop the transport and rewind that there is a little bit of the end of the tune played.

It is definitely not the tail of any audio Wookiee.  I have a project full of lighting patterns (midi data only)  that  I drag into audio projects when programming lights.  It happens when I attempt to play the audio project after dragging a midi clip across  from the lighting preset project.  To be clear,  it happens when two projects are open,  despite them having the same sample rate etc,  even when one has no audio and  I dont even start it playing.  Just copying midi data from a second project is enough.  It doesn't happen when doing the same process in X3. I can also confirm that sounds horrendous through a line array!

Have you tried renaming AUD.INI and letting SONAR build a new one?
