Cakewalk 5 LE

I just received this as a gift along with microphone.  It does not work on my mac!!!!! the fine print on the box says it is cable ready for a mac but not software.  What do I need to do to get the microphone to work on my machine?

the fine print on the box says it is cable ready for a mac but not software.

That pretty much says it all.
I have to guess, since you aren't giving us anything to go on, that you have a USB mic of some kind.
The mic itself is compatible with your mac, but the software (I'm guessing Cakewalk Music Creator 5?) will only run in a Windows environment.
Do you have any sound recording software on your mac, such as Garage Band, Logic, etc?
The mic should serve as an input/interface, but you need mac compatible software to use it with.
You are not required to use the Cakewalk software with the mic. It is just a bundled freebie.
Check the documentation (possibly on a CD). There should be instructions for setting up the mic on your mac.
I'm pretty sure you at least have Garage Band. Check the help files for setting up input devices.
Good luck with it, and Merry Christmas.
