Cakewalk 5 and Studio Instruments

Am trying to get SI working with Cakewalk 5.  Can insert soft synth (Drum, Bass, etc), etc. as described in SI documentation.  Soft Syth Midi enabled and have selected OMNI as input (Have also tried individual channels).  Can hear audio out properly.  Can arm track to record.  However, no midi data is collected if I use the soft synth.  If I change the soft synth input to my midi keyboard, soft synth is controlled properly by keyboard and MIDI data is recorded.
 
Any thoughts/guidance are appreciated.
