I don't know why you seem surprised. Didn't anybody else notice that when X3 was announced there was a brief mention of being able to port to Apple?

Ok..I have no problem with iCrap...per se...there IS money to be made there... My biggest issue stems from "neglect". As long as Cake doesn't neglect X3 in favor of "iCrap" ...it's fine...
It certainly is the future....I have no problem with that assertion... But PC's are NOT going anywhere in the next 5 years...and ARE what created the "revolution" and will still be around, howbeit much more powerful. We PC users have invested THOUSANDS into your companies...to get you where you are..
So, Bakers, be smart, take a hard look at IK's example of what "NOT" to do... and carry on...

More precisely, everybody now has a crappy camera in their pocket. Polarizing filters? You dinosaur! Glass lenses? How retro. Zoom lenses? Get with it, you just make the pixels bigger now. It's digital, you know. Depth of field? I'm sure there's a menu for that. You, with your ancient camera thingy, you have to focus the damn thing. My phone automatically focuses on whatever's most important in the frame. Of course, if I'm trying to take a picture through a window it focuses on the window, but that actually looks pretty cool. The important thing is that when I take a picture of my junk clever "selfie", I can instantly post it on Twitface so all my fellow twitfacers can marvel at my cleverness. Personally, I'm still waiting for a phone that works well as a telephone and does so for more than 4 hours before going dead.

Zactly. I actually used my phone camera the other day when I unexpectedly came across a colourful boat parade for UAE national day. I might as well not have bothered. The photos are crap, the way you hold it as a camera totally un-ergonomic and composing on the LDC screen is next to impossible. Then there is the latency between pressing the shutter and photo being taken, hopeless for moving objects. Call me a dinosaur but I am going to be carrying round a SLR and lenses and even a tripod for some time yet.

The HUGE advantage of a camera in your phone is that you always have it with you. If you are going to make great photography you'll take a great camera but you will have planned for that. I have no need for a great camera. I've got a $100 Olympus that's fine but I never have it with me when my kids do something cute or I see something out of the ordinary. A "crappy" camera in my phone is far better then an "SLR and lenses and even a tripod" in my closet. 12/4/2013

The only advantage to mobile music making apps (to me) is when that song idea hits me at an inconvenient time, I can now "record" it someplace and not forget it while waiting until I can get to me DAW. I can't see it ever replacing my DAW, but you never know... Regards, Dan

I use my cell phone camera for taking pics of wire configurations when I'm going to disassemble and for those 24 digit model numbers written in small font. As a close up camera it's great. I guess everything has a place. This app looks a lot like another app called loopy which is a really successful app. I can see why Cake would be doing this. I don't think they will sacrifice X3 to develop/promote this. I'm hoping for more compatibility with Sonar in the future. A little Sonar that plays with the big Sonar. Like most other apps you can probably export what you do in this and load it into something else. In the video I watched it looked as if the vocalist making use of it live was firing off samples that were somehow locked to a click. At least the drummer was in time with it.

Technology just keeps getting better and better. This app will get better with each update and cameras keep getting better with each year passing. I remember when .3 megapixels was good. Now 8-14 megapixel cameras are the norm.

ScratchPad is a pretty cool app, and has a lot of nice content. I put it on my wife's iPad (well, it is both of ours but I never get it when she's home) and it is plenty of fun, if you like the looping thing. @

mobility is awesome... I can capture spontaneous raps/song ideas anytime...I can't begin to remember ideas I had in an earlier time... and, Bit... as to your point on crappy cameras?? Nokia's new camera's in their phones are frackin' amazing... (almost makes me wanna dump android... oh it hurts...) However, ccleary, I agree... hope Cake doesn't go the way of IK...who all but abandoned us loyal customers for some quick crappy bucks on itoys... (although, irig is pretty cool...WHERE'S my G-Rig, IKobe???? Don't do the applesauce!) as for at least the next 5 to 7 years, mobile won't power the creative tools I'm lovin' and our amazing small companies (uhe, camel, oh the list is sooooo long) are creatin'. However, Android tablet links to X3????? Oh, YEA!!! gimme some o dat!!! Deap integration/cross linking would be truely wonderful...a couple nexus 7s & 10s on the desk, doin' different things, wifi netted to be spread around the room.... Oh, yea....

I get the mobility thing and I am sure it works for a lot of people. I travel a lot and years ago bought a Yamaha QY10 thinking it would let me work on ideas on the move, in reality it was a lot of fun but found more utility in a pen and pad of manuscript paper. the QY10 died long ago, when I start to think about getting a tablet to use on the move I remember my experience with my QY10 and keep the cash for something else. And the QY10 had a big advantage (IMHO of course, I know "youngsters" can work touch efficiently) - Tactile buttons, not a touch screen. I can see how electronic miniaturization and improvements in processor technology and memory will mean at some stage in the future a mobile device will have the power to do what can be done on a PC today, but it will still need a docking station and external keyboard and screen for ergonomic use when not mobile. Cameras in phones are another issue. The lens is the most important item in determining the quality and you are not going to be able to have a high quality lens in a phone due to size limitations. Samsung makes/made a compact camera that is also a phone to try to overcome these limitations. Megapixels are only a small part of the story, the size of the sensor is more important, and by definition camera phones will only have a small sensor. Sensor technology will improve, which means the big sensors will get better as well as the small ones and the gap will not be closed. If you want snapshots for family memories, selfies to post on Twitface, or capture an unexpected event the convenience of a camera in a phone is obvious, but for landscapes and portraits colour me very sceptical.

I am finding that I am using my iPhone and IPad more to assist me with song writing. I tried carrying around a note pad for a while to quickly jot things down, but I found that when I needed it, I didn't have it with me. It seems like most of the phrases or lyrics that I use in my songs come to me when I am not really expecting them. Convenience is king, and having the ability to quickly voice record a sentence or phrase in the voice recorder or the notes section has saved many quick phrases that I would have normally lost before I could get to a scratch pad.
I am finding that I am using more of the song writing apps as well and the near rhyming apps in particular for assistance. I don't see more tools in the tool box as a problem and I have started to look for ways to use new technology to assist me in what I already do.
As far as cameras, I still love and use my DSLR Nikons. However, my iPhone has saved my butt on the occasion that I am not lugging the Nikon with me. I have been known to use both while shooting as well. I often slip in a shot with the iPhone while shooting with the Nikon. Sometimes it even comes out better. I guess I never had any issues with clinging to old technology or old cars.
