Cakewalk FX 2 - Direct X plug-ins - not showing up in Sonar X3
Greetings, I have an EXE setup file for Cakewalk Fx2 (I like the old TapeSim plug-in); these are DX audio effects. I installed the DX version of this (build date of 2013). Even though it installed successfully, it is not showing up as a DX plug-in within Sonar X3. I have re-scanned, etc. But for some reason, it is not showing up. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

I think it's only 32 bit, so if you're running the 64 bit version of X3, you're out of luck (without some hackery, which you can find on the forum).

64bit TapeSim was bundled with SONAR through part of the X series. If the OP does not show it in X3, it must have been shipped with X2 because that is the earliest version I have installed. There is a spreadsheet of bundled plug-ins referenced in several threads on this forum. I have not bothered with the FX2 installer in ages, I have no idea what is in it.

It has the old TapeSim DX plug-in - which I have always liked. Since they re-vamped install EXE in 2013, I am assuming that they updated to 64-bit? - But maybe not. I have the install DVD's for Sonar X3 - but not for X2.

Ah...I was thinking of the FX3 plug-in. Sorry.

Was there a choice of installing 32 or 64bit plug-ins in the FX2 installer? If not, chances it is a 32bit only installer. AFAIK, Cakewalk never made a 64bit only installer. All Cakewalk products that include 32 and 64bit plug-ins have a 32/64 install option page when running on 64bit Windows. X2 was the last to include the plug-in; any older 64bit version of SONAR Producer would do. Run the advanced install. X2 should still be available as a download.

If Sonar X3 does not read 32 DX plug-ins, and the FX plug-ins were never updated to 64-bit, then it appears that I would be out of luck.

There is a 64bit version of the plug-in, I have it installed. It came from either X2 or X3 because those are the oldest versions of SONAR I installed. If you do not see it and you are running X3, it must have come from X2.

Yes - and I actually purchased the FX2 separately, so Cakewalk created a new EXE file in 2013. I tried installing it, but X3 apparently won't read it(?)

Pretty sure that all 3 FX collections were free starting some time late in 2009. Regardless, my comments about the installer and where to find the 64bit plug-in are still accurate.

The KB article refers to disc-based installers NOTE - The following updates apply only to versions installed from the Audio FX discs. If you have downloaded Audio FX 1, 2 and 3 from our Cakewalk Store, then the updates below are not necessary.
When Cakewalk freed these packages in 2009 they were available as download only.

Yes, I know. I downloaded the freebies (and still have them). But OP said he purchased his separately. I wasn't clear on how far back that was or whether it was on a disc, so I offered the link just in case.
