It will give you the full version, but you have to have one of the required versions authorised in NI Authorisation Centre (or whatever it's called).

Ok, in the personal update manager on the NI website, I can see Guitar Rig 3.2.1 Win Update Update 18.02.2009 190.6 MB. That was from Sonar 8.5 Professional, however, when I upgraded to Sonar X1, I changed the OS from Windows XP to Windows 7 and never installed the Guitar Rig from Sonar X1. Do you think this will have an impact on me obtaining the update and installing the Guitar Rig 5 software? Peace

(However like we all know there's always the chance for somthing to go wrong with all these crazy protection and upgrade schemes.) Good luck, John

Darn. Although I am annoyed about missing out on this deal (upgraded a few weeks ago) I have learned of the BFD eco deal because of this thread. THAT will be useful. Also anyone who doesn't take advantage of this GR5 upgrade is a fool. It is extremely powerful and useful. The tuner alone is worth the $50.

and, stevec... that BFD Eco deal is going until the end of August. You really should do what you can to snag both. I'm assuming you are into the same type of writing I am and I'll tell ya between GR5 and what BFD Eco purports to do I'll pretty much not have much want for any more software for quite some time. The only thing above those I think I'd be looking at are some of the PC modules and expansion packs for BFD... and those would be luxury items that can wait. Cheers!

I took advantage of the BFD deal a while ago while it was the "Deal of the Day" on the musicians friends site. The BFD Eco is a good buy!

I still don't think any of the soft stomp boxes sound as good as a real tube amp with real stomp boxes. I have Guitar Rig and Pod Farm and they're ok, but I like my PodXTLive better because there's no latency and the effects and models are better. IMHO

Doesn't particularly bother me unless the upgrade from GR4 LE to GR6 is also $49.50. Then I'll cry a little. Probably realise it doesn't really add more capabilities, simply gives me more options to be confused by, then move on and make music. Looking at GR5, there are so many choices in sound. I hate lots of choices. GR6 is only going to give me more so not really too bothered! But good point. You're probably very right.

I was thinking the end of July for all of these sales, so that definitely makes a difference. I think I know what I'll be getting next month. Although... I think I might also qualify for the current Kontakt 5 crossgrade @ $140. And though I really don't have the cash, but there are so many libraries that run on the full version (I already have the free Kontakt Player) and some of them are pretty inexpensive. Plus, the delivered content seems decent too. So with BFD Eco going until the end of August, it's really down to Guitar Rig 5 (and saving $90) or Kontakt 5. There's no end to it...

The best "feeling" amp sim out there is for free. Acme Bar Gig makes it and they give it away. http://www.acmebargig.com/product/shred/ I have GR4 (and plan on getting the upgrade, Thanks for the tip!), Line 6 Gear Box Gold (Oldie but Goodie), Amplitube 3 Free with quite a few add-on's from custom shop. Plus other free amp sims. And I have A/B'd these things side by side, and to me the closest thing to my tube amps (I have four different amps) is the ABG software. Don't believe me? Try it. Noof said. Bothe GR and Amplitube do have strengths, each one different. I do like the Roland Jazz Chorus sound that GR4 has. And the Control Room of GR4 is really nice. But I will upgrade the GR4 to 5. I passed on the Amplitube deal. Someone mentioned the lack of components with some of the available presets in Amplitube seeming like a "scam" I don't know if I would go that far, but it sure seems to me that it smells a little like that!!

Steve if you have good monitors, crank the volume up with the gain high and you will get real feedback! And try the pinch harmonics!! You also have to try and play with the Tonal Correction EQ, that thing can sculpt your guitar sound however you want. I love it! And if you really like to tweak and get your own sound, ABG has a new one coming out soon called Head Case. It has a builder that you can customize the Tubes to respond how you want. Really just too much to explain here. ABG also has iFace for RedWirez Speaker impluses. Recabinet has a new Speaker plug out now. Use these along with any of the guitar amp sims and they will greatly enhance the realistic sound.

Beepster @Grem... Is it 32 or 64 bit? It's only 32bit. I haven't tried it with X1 64bit as I have been using the latest version of HeadCase. But it does work with the 32bit version of X1 in Windows 64bit. And I haven't been able to get HeadCase to work with X1exp through bitBridge. I just started in the "True" 64bit environment, so I am not really sure why Head Case won't work with 64bit Win 7 and X1 64bit. And HeadCase is only 32bit also. ABG is planing the 64bit version. I just don't know when that will get out. I know it won't be with this release that's coming up.

Thank you for that info. I would very much like to try it and figured it might work with the bitbridge thingy (which I have yet to read up on) so you saved me some hassle screwing around with it. I will however be keeping an eye on the software for any 64 bit releases and maybe I'll see if I can get it running elsewhere. I didn't realize it was the people releasing Head Case. That was highly recommended by another fellow on here. Cheers and again thank you for the info and link. EDIT: Actually that fellow mentioned it was working with bit bridge so perhaps it's worth another look. Cheers!

Thanks for posting this Glenn I have Pod Farm and like it, but was never satisfied with the lack of sustain. I also downloaded Shred from Acme Bar Gig and I like the tones from the amps but was less impressed with the effects section. I had checked the overview video out on you-tube for Guitar Rig 5 and thought it was worth getting at the $50 on sale price. So far I like it.

Grem, I just wanted to let you know that I was a little late getting into work this morning. Can you guess why? Just based on my initial tests I do like how Shred sounds *and* feels. Since I'm pickier about the core amp modeling/cabinet aspect than just about anything else this one just might do it for me. I tried a few separate VST plugs in series as "stomp box" FX based on Thatsastrat's comment, and that seemed to work OK. Although the built-in delays and reverbs didn't seem too bad in context.

stevec Grem, I just wanted to let you know that I was a little late getting into work this morning. That's what I'm talking about Steve! You just get lost playing like you did when you first started doing this!! Ah the sheer joy of it!! ABG makes a free version of iFace. It's a IR program much like Perfect space, but tailored for Speaker IR made by Redwirez . And Redwirez gives away a small set of their Impulse Responses based on a Marshall cab. Those things are worth grabbing!! And it's for free!! And I am sure once you try this stuff you will be a customer. It happened to me!! Also in the links above LePou makes another free speaker cab sim IR program. Just trying different speakers with an amp is really fun!! And this is all free!! And these things can be used with Guitar Rig, Amplitube, or any other Amp sim.

You just get lost playing like you did when you first started doing this!! Yeah, that's about it. I just downloaded the trial version of iFace - didn't see an outright free version - but the regular version is only $22 which isn't bad. Especially when the amp itself is free! I did try the Lepou amp sim a while back but really didn't care for it. However, I don't recall whether I tried the cabinet sim too... What the heck!

I really can't stress enough just how much fun this plug is!! That's why I keep using it even though I have other amp sims. The developer is really keen on user input. So most of what your experiencing is from other users!! The developers are also very accomplished guitarist themselves. If you play guitar you really need to just check this out. And for all the keyboard players, try this plug with your favorite synth!! You'd be surprised.
