Cakewalk Instruments Compatibility with EMu Modern Symphonic Orchestra Library

Apologies if this question makes little sense or if I'm missing the boat on this one...

I saw a deal for E-Mu's Modern Symphonic Orchestra on clearance for $60 (see links below).  From the outside, seems like a pretty good deal for 10GB of sounds as the orig price was somewhere in the vicinity of $300.  The description states that the samples are to be used with either Emulator X or Proteus X.

My question is the compatability with the other instruments within Sonar 8.5 Producer.  In addition to Dimension Pro and the others, I also have the full version of Rapture but not sure if it is compatible with this either.

I'm looking for a library with pretty good strings.  Anything else is just bonus.

Is this even something I should be concerned with or should I focus on getting some of the Proteus Packs for Dimension Pro @ $20?  Would Virtuoso fit the bill versus what you get with Modern Symph Orch?

Sorry if I'm not making much sense (as I'm thinking out loud here).

    Hi Hoox,

The Modern Symphonic Orchestra is designed to play back on Emulator X, not Dimension. You can add Emulator X as a Sonar instrument plug in and access the synth and libraries.

You may also want to consider our Studio Orchestra Dimension Pack.

This is the source content from our recordings for the Virtuoso sound module. The primary difference between the Virtuoso expansion used for the module (64mb) and Studio Orchestra (1.2gig) is that Studio Orchestra is higher quality and has many more samples  - samples are not pitch stretched across the keyboard. The collection is modern, sounds great, and includes strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, grand piano, Mellotron, synths, and more.

    Hope that helps……….

    Best Regards,

Thanks for the reply, Tim.  Although it looks like it would be a great product, I'm not in the market for a $150 orchestral sound module at this time.  I was interested in MSO, mainly due to the closeout pricing ($60), and even then was doubting my "need" for it.

For any others interested in this thread, I had also emailed EMU support regarding the use of the Proteus VX VSTi and received the following response:

"Proteus VX is software that we give away for free as a demo. While it can be used with MSO, it is not ideal nor does it use MSO or provide best possible performance. Proteus VX doe not contain all the same performance features as our full versions do. In addition since one of the limitations is that it can no stream from hard disk like our other versions do, all banks must fit into available system RAM. Many of the MSO banks are quite large.
Proteus VX can be used with Sonar 8.5 but we strongly suggest that you do not use or rely on Proteus VX for use with MSO. There will also only be minimal support for any issues with Proteus VX abd MSO."

So, it looks like you've got to pony up for Emulator X if you're interested in this package.
