Cakewalk Interface "Disappearing" - SOLVED
Been running X1 for a couple of months on new HP desktop, and, after a few initial teething problems it's been the most stable system I've ever had. Over the last couple of days I keep getting the Audio Engine Stopped box. The SPS-66 seems to have stopped working. If I close Sonar and switch off the Cakewalk SPS-66, there is no "Bing bong" as there usually is, and when I switch it back on there is no "Bong bing, bong bing. (Sorry for technical terminology). If I reboot computer and switch SPS on I get ""Bong bing, bong bing" and everything works fine, until the next time. This is happening a lot, and does little to improve my workflow. Any suggestions as to what would cause this, and why it's okay after Windows Restart? Another thread recently had a similar story, but having looked into it I'm not sure the cause is the same. I have all the latest drivers installed, including the 64 bit Windows 7 drivers from Cakewalk for the SPS. PLEASE HELP. Any suggestions gratefully received. Within reason..

StarTekh jb101: I did read your post: it's been the most stable system I've ever had,? Yes, After a few niggles that people on here helped me sort out, upgrading to X1 on this desktop has been really stable. No dropouts, clicks, crashing etc. Running smoothly whatever I throw at it. It's been fantastic. By far the most stable DAW I've used at home. Been making music on computer since Amiga days. Any suggestions gratefully received. Within reason..OK ... I'm happy and grateful to hear anyone's ideas about what's causing this. The last bit was meant to be a silly joke i.e. I really welcome anyone's input on this issue, but if their suggestion was rude or daft (e.g. jump off a cliff, give up music, go balance an onion on your head, etc) then not. Sorry, was meant as a flippant line. Thanks for posting.

Have I done something to offend you? I apologise if I have. Please explain how so I can avoid it in the future. I was just looking for help from people on here who obviously have a lot of knowledge and experience. I do not understand what the problem is. People on here have been so helpful in the past, why this sudden change? I'm just trying to make music like everybody else. I've been with Sonar since getting Sonar 6, and have just upgraded to X1. I am more at home with making music than with computers, so appreciate any help with the tech side. That is why I post here when I need advice, as many of the people on here seem very knowledgeable on both music and computers.

☄ Helpful
I have a similar set up in that I have an HP desktop, configured as a dedicated DAW, and the SPS-660 interface, again, running smoothly in 64-bit with no issues whatsoever. Possibly this is a corrupted driver. Try uninstalling the driver and loading again. This has got a high chance of working in my experience. If it doesn't, you can begin to look more closely at some sort of hardware fault with the audio interface itself, but very often an process of uninstall, reboot of computer and re-install does the trick. Thanks, Garry, I'll try that. That makes sense as it was working beautifully before. Love the four monitor set up in your pic. I have a single twenty three inch monitor, but have just found a little fifteen inch monitor from an old computer lying around. Do you think it's worth hooking that up or should I wait 'til I get a bigger second monitor? How do you have yours configured? Again, many thanks for your suggestion, will post back as soon as I have a chance to try it out.

Let us know how you get on after a driver uninstall / reboot / reinstall jb. With regard to my set up, it's a bit simpler than it looks. It is 2 PC's both with dual screen. I have two 22' LG monitors at desk height connected to my DAW, and 2 x 19' HP monitors mounted above them on what I call a 'DAW support' system. One keyboard resides on my desk to the left of my MIDI controller / keyboard and the other for the DAW is on a sliding mount underneath the desk. It works great though as I can have the other DAW permanently connected to the internet for research, forum etc etc. I can also download updates / files etc. and transfer them by my local network to my DAW for installation. A bit different, but it works for me... Thanks for asking Garry
