Cakewalk MP3 Encoder - Export Problem - Solved

Under the Edit Menu is...

Select->  All -> Ctrl+Num 5, Ctrl+A
              None -> Ctrl+Shift+A, Num 5

Ctrl+A only selects the busses, and Ctrl+Shift+A deselects them.  I can manually select all tracks and busses with Ctrl+Click.

But, I was able to export an MP3 by Selecting None and unchecking the 64bit box in the Export dialog box.
Same as for the WAV I already exported, except I had the 64bit box checked in that case.

Original Post:

Just finished a song which I'll post shortly, but here's the deal.

If I export as a WAV I get the entire mix, just like it sounds during Sonar playback, all good.

If I export as an MP3 however - downloaded Cakewalk's encoder this morning - only the vocal busses are exported.  One is for reverb and one for submix, not exactly sure which one is actually exporting, stopped troubleshooting when the wav export worked just fine.

Using 64bit engine for both exports.

I saw another thread with a similar issue, but didn't see the solution.

I can use Audacity to convert the wav to an mp3, but I did just pay $20 for Cakewalk's encoder.  Anybody have a similar issue?

Yup... we all have... hit Ctrl A to select all tracks before you open the export dialog box... then select "Entire Mix"... the "entire" means the tracks you selected... so mute any you do not want.

Yep.  Did all of that.  Like I said, works for a wav, but not for an mp3.  I'll keep at it.  Thanks.

The Cakewalk licensed MP3 encoder is working fine here. I'd be surprised if it matters in this case, but X3c has an acknowledged issue wih the 64-double precision engine; try disabling that in Preferences, not just in the export dialog, and double-check your source selections  (e.g. Entire mix Main Out). And I trust you're exporting with Fast Bounce; Real-time and MP3 encoding don't play well together.

Re: Cakewalk MP3 Encoder - Export Problem 2013/11/10 10:54:44 (permalink)
I first joined this forum way back in 2007 because I was having encoder issues. I looked for a solution that I never found. I was using cakewalks encoder. Eventually I got a third party encoder and tried it. I got it to somewhat work. Now I just export in wav and then convert it using Sound Forge. For some reason it seems to me I get better results for mp3 by exporting as a wav and then converting the stereo wav. I don't know why that is.

I found that I got different results depending on the dither I was using when I exported to mp3. This was a long time ago. have you tried muting only the vocal busses just to see if you get anything at all on the export? I know this is annoying, but it should work as long as you have selected export entire mix and you have all the tracks you want to export selected. as long as nothing is muted or soloed it should work. you may be a candidate for tech support. Give them a call tomorrow if you can't get it working.

Have you tried exporting other mixes to see if you get similar results?
