Cakewalk Notation Font missing

Hi, I have been happily using Cakewalk 9.03 for many years. After an upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit), I was delighted having been able to re-install Cakewalk. I can play all my files, but unfortunately, the notation font did not survive the transition. I get an error message ("... cannot produce font ...") and in staff view all notes and other musical symbols show as squares and funny signs. Is there any hope to recover the music font? If not, which Sonar product would give me the same functions as my good old Cakewalk: Playing freely from Midi-keyboard, creating scores in staff view and playing the music, having a reasonably large choice of string, percussion, brass and electronic instruments. I am very confused when I study Sonar's product pages, because 95% of the features praised there are of little or no interest to me. All I want is a software that can replace my part-defunct Cakewalk. Thank you for your help Fritz

    Welcome to the forum.
Given that simplicity is your main concern, I recommend Music Creator 6.
You can download it and be playing through it in just a few hours... or days. Took quite a while to download for me.
It's the least-expensive DAW Cakewalk has with full functionality. It comes with the TTS-1, Studio Instrument Drums software synthesizers, and you should be able to use almost any other VST soft synth out there.

    Greg
I am selling my MIM Fender Stratocaster HSS, red and black. PM for more details.

Music Creator 2003, MC Pro 24, SONAR Home Studio 6 XL, SONAR  X3e, CbB, Focusrite Saffire, not enough space.
    Everything is better with pie.

Thank you very much, Greg & Glen. I shall have a closer look at your suggestion. In the meantime, I have managed to resuscitate the font by starting the program as administrator. But the experience made me consider a change to a more modern version. Fritz
