I for one absolutely want to see Sonar on the Mac.

Purely because to obtain my degree I'm forced to use Logic, and I
personally feel if Sonar were a complete and stable option for Mac
'pro' studios would adopt it as 'industry standard' and thus negate the
need for me to become a Logic power user. phew!

It seems alittle unfair to HAVE to use Logic when I'm so proficiant with Sonar.

So for me it's purley selfish lol

As far as OSX vs Windows........sigh - gets a little tedious really doesn't it?

Afterall as Kraymon so acurately put it - 'Choice is a fine thing'

Amen to that!

* Windows10 (x64), Focusrite Safire Pro24, Sonar Platinum (x64) * MacOS High Sierra, Logic Pro X, Ableton Live 9 *

Like I said, this thread has its share of mis-information but much of the argument is just personal opinion(preference).

Eratu's and Pjl's posts are the best in this whole thread.  Thanks guys, it was a pleasure reading them.

I personally agree with everyone else who has an open mind about choice.  Sonar on Mac FTW!

its not a matter of choice :-) its a matter taht you seem to lack quite some informative background...btw: no one having a mac is restricted to osx - on a mac you can install any windows you want natively (and legally) AND you can run any windows virtually within osx...
i know a dude who runs osx and w7 (both 64) parallely on 2 monitors at the same time from his macpro without any performance hickup - he can even simulate w7, xp, and vista inside the osx - and handle them like 3 hardware computers (simulating real life network configurations within osx) thats what he needs for his clients - cos he is a network specialist..
so in the end an apple computer is a very vell calibrated (yet expansive) computer that has a perfect hardware setup for its original os... AND that also works smoothly as a "normal" pc with or without virtualization - NOW i ask you whats your problem with this depth of "choice"

regards

so there is also ne real need to port sonar over to mac cos mac is a pc with a little (super) extra ignition ....

Re:Cakewalk, PLEASE, DON'T ever MESS "our" SONAR with Apple's OS (and their policies...).. 2010/07/20 12:11:53 (permalink)
Mac's are just standardized PC's built to meet certain criteria, they're both made from the same parts more or less... with a pretty exterior and a different OS.

I'm by no means a DAW jumper, I couldn't afford nor would I want to switch DAW's everytime one DAW had an up on another.

I'm a happy Sonar user, but of course I expect improvements and progress as does everyone else. I'm a happy Windows 7 64 bit user, I'm more annoyed at 3rd party companies who couldn't be bothered to or aren't competent enough to develop good drivers and software.

At this point I think we all agree that our computers, regardless of their OS's or if they're a PC or MAC are way ahead of the software, it's up to software developers to catch up and reach their potential..

To me it doesn't make sense to port Sonar over to MAC... Mac has ProTools, Logic, and Cubase? (not sure), there are lots of good DAWs that work on a MAC, and there are good DAWs that work on a PC. To me it doesn't make sense to waste time and resources to make Sonar available to Mac users.. that same time and resources could be used to push Sonar further ahead and continue to push the envelope and fix things that are broken.

I don't care what is industry standard or not, all major DAWs do the same thing, and you could make the same music on any of them (with the right 3rd party hardware and software)

Fix Sonar and improve Sonar, once everything is fixed and there is nothing more to fix or improve then port it over to Mac... so you're porting over something awesome!

Yes most of what is posted here is opinion,

And here is mine:

I don't like Mac's, I tried to be more or less objective and impartial above but to do that 100% unbiased is impossible for anyone.

I'm not going to list all the reasons explaining what I don't like about them
But I am happy with my PC laptop, it has more juice than most Macs or PC's...

LOL - if you want to see it like that - then its ok for me ;-)
btw. have you ever been a logic user? (i have worked with it for 7 years and now i have been working with sonar for 4-5 years...id see no need to emtionalize one or the other app - but in terms of being spontaneous to use and easy even logic 5.5 (10 years old) is better than sonar - but on the other hand sonar has much deeper features - so its a matter of what suits the workflow best...

Tom, I've been a long time emagic Logic user, which i loved, up to Logic Pro v8, which I honestly found very unstable and poor in terms of resources handling, quite disappointing... especially considering it should have worked fine on Apple's own OS, at least...

I personally find that those "much deeper features" in SONAR are worth the choice of it...
I'm working on Win7/64bit, so let me tell you it's something Apple will never reach, 'cos I know what I'm saying...

...anyway, you are absolutely right when you say "its a matter of what suits the workflow best..." , it couldn't be otherwise...

Audiophilia Bio. Todays issues unfounded? Contribute Your Own Bio.

DUDES!!! We have it made - I could only DREAM of recording the quality I am capable of -

in 1986 when I got that tascam under the tree I was in Heaven

when I bought it to the 16 track studio by saving up with my $3.35 and hour job flippin pizzas - I was skipping around like I had just lost my virginity

Now we have these PC and MAC wars

Hey -- where were those wars in the 1970's? the 80's?

We're technology spoiled

its all great  - PC -- or MAC based - we are truly blessed as musicians to beable to record and produced an album for very cheap in our own homes and up load them to the internet for the world to hear

if you really think about it

why is anyone complaining about anything -- wars - religion - the economy - your job

I can freaking record an ALBUM out of my home and give it to the world -

it was a dream I had when I was 16

Now I can and have done it

so who is complaining about what now?

an automation bug - a driver problem ?

whaaaaaat?

I am recording high quality out of my home - WITH UNLIMITED FREAKING TRACKS AND FX RACK - who cares about a snafu that I will work out and what platform I am on ???

I am a musician living my dream

you know where I am coming from?

I hope so

Just think about that the next pc/mac - platform - or what program you use thread comes up

cuz as I said before

we can do this now - and it's awesome

all of it

If I can choose any OS platform and all other 3part SOFTWARE manufacture would follow and 100% support it as well like Spectrasonics, East-West and Native Instruments and so on...I would probably choose---> LINUX and KDE.
Next would be Microsoft Windows as I use today and last OS would be OSX.

This is just a Utopia because this with LINUX will never happen..

+1 on making SONAR NOT support OSX Apple.
Its much better Cakewalk put all their time on making SONAR work perfect on Windows instead, the platform that the majority of all people in the world use.

Its all about politic...

If apple start support LOGIC on Windows then...maybe...then..., they can start on thinking making it work on OSX as well. Don't forget SONAR is the "LOGIC" on Windows platform working closely with INTEL and Microsoft. If you are on Windows platform you strongly benefits using SONAR DAW compare to other DAW:s on Windows platform. That's why it work so great, x64bit, bitbridge and etc...with the embedded Microsoft & Intel codes inside the DAW-core program...

You must have missed the memo. Word has it that Sonar is already perfect and doesn't need any fixes or improvements, but...
if I could have what I wanted it would allow for processor isolation!

dream on freddy ;-) sonar surely is NOT the "logic of windows"
among "pofessionals" protools and cubase or nuendo and even reason or ableton live  are much more used - trust me!
but why give a damn about it? i dunno... i cant undesrtand why people have this strong need to postualte that "what i use is the best" ...

Then it must be about software-hardware integration and the ongoing discrepancy between signal-information-format-conversion of such and compatibility of language and instruction.

(taking a deep breath)

exactly what i was thinking...

it's just like choosing the highest sample rate to record because it sounded better... and all the headache you have to endure to really hear the difference, upgrade your DAW, OS, Hardware, etc...

well... do what you have to... in the end... it just the music that really matters...

Re:Cakewalk, PLEASE, DON'T ever MESS "our" SONAR with Apple's OS (and their policies...).. 2010/07/21 08:00:26 (permalink)
Here is WHY to use SONAR and why it will probably soon take over the Audio and Music industry standard.  (with REAPER)

Yes perhaps you laugh now...but you will see that I'm right in the end.
Great things will soon happen with SONAR platform. You can almost feel it!
Its just matter of time....perhaps already in the next SONAR version (SONAR, 9, 10) or next after that we will see 128bit BEAT-version that will support the next WINDOWS 8, 128bit that will come out 2012-2014.

As you all already know, many other DAW:s like Pro Tools, LIVE, struggle today just to make a 64bit version that work. SONAR x64bit has already been in use official since 2005.

Pro tools 8 HD 32bit has today a NOTE------> 32bit BETA-version out trying to get it to work just on Windows 7 x64bit and that doesn't even work for them.
Logic doesn't do any major progress either...going very slow even though they have a x64bit version out now. Nothing going on on that platform since apple bought Emagic over 10 years ago...

You will see, time will tell!

10Ten Apple already has a better DAW than Sonar. It's Sonar users that want Sonar ported to OSX not OSX users.
So you're using Logic then?
Owned Cakewalk Pro, then moved to Logic and then went back when Apple bought Emagic. The only reason why I didn't stay with Logic is because PCs were better at the time. That has ended, but I'm still not a fan of Apple OSes. Don't get me wrong, Sonar is a decent product but it has way too many bugs and strange quirks that make it damn near impossible to be efficient.

What a ridiculous thing to say-I still will never underastand why folks like you come here. Just stay away, since the program s**ks in your opinion. Jeezzz!

may i AGAIN remind you that NO ONE of the listerners EVER CARES how a track was made: 32,64,128 bit os or mixengine ...your obsessive focus on technical specs is somehow weird.
insted of talking bits n´bytes talk music freddie...
btw. who also cares about "wonderful things happening in the future with sonar" ;-)
you should rate musical output by its success in terms of sales  and not by its "internal data"

and you know that a musician that is more talented as you are will probably already kick your butt (pardon) with an 8 track tape recorder even if you have sonar 10 256bit with an octocore-multy array  - never forget this ;-)

thanks
