Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 .bun files - plz help!

Hello! :)

Sorry for posting this here, but I can't imagine a better place to ask than the Cakewalk forums!
I have some .bun files created with Cakewalk Pro Audio 9, and I have the software too. I would like to export, in one go, each audio track as a separate .wav file (not a mixdown of all audio tracks). Is this possible in Pro Audio 9 and how? If not, then what could I do to get these audio files? If I download a Sonar trial, will it be able to open these .bun files and extract the audio?

Thank you! :)

A BUN file is a compressed file where all the audio is in a single file along with the project and MIDI. When you open a BUN file Sonar or Pro Audio will unpack it and store store all the audio of the project in a folder. In Sonar Platinum it will ask where you want to put the audio and such. I can't recall what Pro Audio will do but it will also unpack it.

Audio will be made on a per track basis. It will also do this with clips. But clips can be many on a single track. I would simply open the BUN file and check where the audio is and from there decide how to proceed. You may need to bounce a track with clips in it to a track so that the clips are combined.

Re-iterating and expanding on what John wrote since I was about to cross-post:

Yes, the SONAR trial should able to open the bundle. The audio will be extracted to a dedicated Audio folder in the directory that you specify for the project. The trial won't be able to export or save, so you'll have to grab copies out of that folder while the project is open because SONAR will whack them when the project is closed. They'll have the old inscrutable names so you'll need to correlate them to the tracks by right-clicking each clip in SONAR, and choosing Associated Audio Files. You'll also want to make note of the start times if you're planning on bringing them all into another DAW. As John said, it might be a good idea to bounce any multi-clip tracks to one clip that starts at time zero to make things easier.

Opening it in PA9 is probably not worth the trouble of getting it to run on your current Windows machine.

EDIT: Your best bet might be to share the bundle with one of the old hands here who knows SONAR well enough to do it all for you in a jiffy, and zip up the tracks.

Or you can just break down and buy one of the less spendy versions of the current SONAR and get reacquainted with your old flame... you know you still want her.

Thank you both for your responses! :)
When I open the files in Cakewalk Pro Audio 9, the audio gets unpacked to C:\Program Files (x86)\Cakewalk Pro Audio 9\WaveData, but as a single file! So, it is not useful to me. And I cannot find any bounce/export option in the program. Only a "Mixdown Audio".

So, if Sonar opens these .bun files, will Sonar Artist open them? I do not mind paying $9.99 for one month subscription, so that I can export each audio track with the same start time, easily and in one go.

If there is only one audio file than it was what is in the bun file. Yes Artist will open them.

Yes, Artist will open it. It seems you've discovered an unanticipated advantage to the membership model.
